Default 2001 Saturn SC2 w 20,522 miles

Hi Saturn fans,

Newbie here looking for help from Saturn experts. I inherited a silver 2001Saturn SC2 with only a little over 20,000 miles on it. My mom was original owner and used it mostly for grocery store runs. I just replaced tires, brake lines, and front rotors. It passed inspections and emissions.

There aren't many low mileage Saturns for sale to compare to so I am here to ask you Saturn gurus - What do you think is a reasonable asking price for the car when I put it up for sale? Any ball park estimates appreciated. Thanks!

It depends on your location, the local market and the overall condition of the car. Where are you and is there anything that takes away from it's value (past accidents, rust, dings, rips, burns, etc...). Post up some good photos in your album; we like photos. Click the photos link at the very top right corner of this site and select My Photos. You can attach them like you did already as an alternative.

The car is in Fairfax, Va. No accidents. Only issue I see is interior upholstery - sun visors need replacement and upholstery under sunroof has come off. I will get that fixed before selling.

I would say a mega premium Saturn might command $2500. I've seen people list for $4000, but not sure if the Saturns can really command that sort of price. You would get the most out of it by driving it for a couple hundred thousand miles.

What tranny? What interior options?

To the right buyer - and if it is rust free ( the undercarriage) $4000 is not out of line in the least.

Underbody rust will kill the asking price.

Edit to add -

Also - a cold compression test is a must. Short haul driving is hard on these engines - and can show as low compression....

Thanks, you're right, at those prices I might be better off just driving it into the ground. However, I see a SL1 with 34,000 listed in classified for $6,900 so that makes me wonder.

Still trying to get more pics up.

Just saw a '95 SL1 with 43k miles for $2500 in New York. Claims it's from Florida, judging by the only under body shot by the rear passenger trailing arm it's in nearly rust free shape.

Much as I hate 3rd gens I'd pay $2500 for a '01 SC2 long before I'd pay $2500 for a SL1.

Makes me wonder what the seller was smoking

That's $1,000 more than asking price of a 2008 BMW 328i at a dealership that I am tempted to look at. It has been sitting unsold for over 4 months.

It is setting because a BMW is just like a boat, a hole in the water lined with fiberglass or metal you pour money into.

lol, so true.

The most expensive car you can buy is a 'cheap' BMW / Porsche / Jaguar, etc.

If you're trying to post snapshots here, using the thumbnail attachment (paper clip symbol), you'll have to resize them due to file size limits (150kb). I use Windows Paint to resize images to less than a megabyte, convert to jpeg format for acceptance as thumbnail images. Other file formats will work but you may have to experiment until finding the right size for acceptance here. I haven't added snapshots to my photo albumin a long time but I think file size limit (2mb?) exists there so applying the same technique should allow you to include snapshots in your album.
