Nice, congrats! I didn't even know that Buick had brought over another Opel until this post! How do you like it so far?

There are a number of "Opel Buicks". The Regal turbo was originally an Opel made car, but I heard recently that they are now made in the USA . The Buick Encore is actually the Opel Mocha in Germany as well.

My next "Opel/Buick" will probably be the Encore and it will be badged as an Opel, just like my Astra.

Yes. I suspect that had Saturn survived, I'd be driving a Saturn Cascada or Saturn Astra Convertible right now!

I like it. I wasn't looking for a convertible -- but I'm not complaining

What I WAS looking for was something as close to my Astra 2-dr hatchback as possible. And this is it -- same Opel Astra DNA. VERY familiar car.

No more hatchback...but I'll survive.

Hi, sorry to leave ya'll hanging. The Astra was NOT written off! After a whopping $4,400 repair bill, she looks good as new and I am finally out of the rental car.

Coming up on my first timing belt interval (75k miles). I think I'm still in the running.

Glad to hear the good news. I changed my timing belt @ 120,000 miles and the mechanic told me that it still looked to be in good shape. Now @ 130,000 miles, I need to have the clutch replaced. Oh well!

I am just shy of 80K miles moved to PHX area from NYC area. Now debating whether to put money into the car (timing belt, rear brakes, and rear shocks) did the front brakes myself last summer.and the exhaust pipe the year before.
oh and both radiator hoses July last year and March this year. I do like this little car but New is Nice too. I have no Idea what I would buy. very unlikely that I would get any GM car. Will up-date in a few months if I figure it out.

The only options I'm missing are bluetooth or aux in. I suppose I could add those, but I can't be bothered. But compared to newer cars it is missing a lot of options, but I'm fine without them. I'm also going to keep mine till it dies, but I'll be moving up to Ottawa in 2 months and will be driving it daily to work about 40 miles round trip, so the end will be much sooner than I originally planned on. In Toronto I was using transit to get to work, so the mileage has been slow to build up. I suspect once I get the mileage up the problems will start to occur.

If your travel is mostly highway then you won't see much usage, stop and go is what kills a car. All the stories of people reaching a million miles are always highway drivers who do their oil changes at proper intervals.

Just got mine back from the mechanic, after replacing the clutch. Runs great except the shifter needs an adjustment so that it is easier to shift into 1st and 2nd. Does anyone know how to make this adjustment ?

We still have ours, sh's starting to show signs of age but she's still going.

132,000km on her now.

I'm just planning out what I'll be doing to her shortly. The suspension is getting a bit bouncy on large bumps and pot holes so I think new Shocks and Struts are in order. The timing belt has yet to be replaced so I will get on that along with the water pump, thermostat and coolant flush.

We got the car probably over 5 years ago now at 59,000km. All I've had to do to her was regular maintenance, a set of tires, a set of brakes, and 3 exhaust front pipes.

Oh and the wheels are never ever balanced right on this car, even if they are perfect on a machine they always shake a bit. Has anyone had that Issue?

The radio is starting to be a little picky at times and the interior trim is cheap but other than that no crazy issues.

Looking to drive her around for quite a while longer, it's my Wife's car and she has no clue what else she would buy if we were to change the ASTRA. The only thing we know is we are done with GM.

We currently have 4 Pontiac's at home and 1 Saturn. I just purchased a new Vehicle that I am picking up this week and I didn't even consider GM once after the way they dropped us and how they made us feel like Pontiac and Saturn never existed. Sigh.

Do you have the 18s? They bend easily so get them checked for that. I had to fix two of my rims that bent just from regular driving around Toronto.

Are the wheels torqued to spec in the proper pattern? What I thought was a balancing issue turned out to be the wheel bolts not tight enough.

What is the correct torque spec for the lugbolts? I assume the correct sequence is the standard 5 bolt pattern, or is it different?

For my 2009 its 81 lbs ft or 110 Nm.

Standard 5 bolt star pattern alternating with the bolt opposite across the centre to one just tightened.
