Any time I have seen wipers do that on an S-series I just replace the wiper motor, it fixes it every time. Part of the "park" circuit is in the motor itself and starts to fail.

Very likely it's the controller attached to the motor assembly. The controllers on the gen2 and gen3 cars are flaky as hell. The controller reads the input voltage from the steering control stalk (variable resistor) and based on what it sees, it runs different intermittent settings, regular and high. I believe high is 12V, and the one-wipe clear setting is as well.

I don't think new replacement units are available, just "refurbished" units that get a quick black spray paint job. Junkyard isn't a bad option, it's a crap shoot that the replacement controller is better than the bad one you have now.

The controllers can be unplugged/swapped from the wiper motor assembly if you're careful.

Rock auto seems to have new motors in the "standard replacement" section.
https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...per+motor,8824

I wouldn't personally recommend getting a remanufactured motor though. Go either new or used from the junkyard. When my original motor died I got it replaced with a remanufactured one, then after 3 months it broke. Got another remanufactured one put in, that one broke after about 4. Decided I would try the junkyard motors and so far it's been way better than the remanufactured ones. Installed it last June and it's only problem is high is no faster than low (is it called low?) but all the intermittent settings work. Which is nice since they kept breaking on the remanufactured ones.

Your Wiper Motor is starting to go bad.

I would go to the JY to pull a replacement. Usually you can get a JY Wiper Motor for about $30 +/-

The process of getting to it, is a bit of a bear.

Welcome to owning a Saturn S-Series. They collect moisture, in the area where the wiper motor is located. The logic board gets corroded, and they have a plethora of symptoms. One motor, on mine, wouldn't shutoff but only in the rain.

I replaced it, with a JY unit, and the JY unit sprays the windshield with the washer fluid on EVERY setting except the delay settings of 1 & 2. Wiggling my switch, on the dash can sometimes correct it, which means it may be a switch problem as well. I am not pulling my steering wheel, airbag, and clock spring to change it, though.

If you do decide to replace it, try to get a reman unit or new.

About the ONLY thing that is hard to get to, for repair, on these cars.....lolol

Another reason why I am not replacing mine anytime soon. Pulling the dash cover is not fun, and the tabs tend to break if your aren't careful.

It does take awhile to go through all the removal steps, but there's nothing too tricky about it, and no weird tools either. Just a bit tedious.
