2006 VUE 3.5L
Default Another Vibration under load thread

So I have a 2006 Vue V-6 front wheel drive with a little over 140k miles on it. It sat most of last winter 2020, and when I started driving it over the summer the front brakes locked up. I replaced the brakes, and put new wheel bearings on it. It had for a while had a very minor vibration under acceleration, but it seem to get worse this summer. Couldn't figure it out myself so I took it to a local mechanic who put new axles on the front and checked the center support bearing. I also got 4 new tires at this time.

I decided then to drive it from New Jersey to Colorado, and around West Virginia the vibration was getting really bad under load, such as acceleration over 30 mph or going up a hill. I stopped at a shop and had them look it over, they were convinced that it was the transmission. There was no tranny shop near by so I pressed on to Colorado. At cruise, the vibration would go away unless I was going up a hill, and it wasn't there while coasting. I made it no problem to Colorado and took it to my local transmission shop. They decided it wasn't the transmission, and decided to try new cv joints. nope, not it. new motor mounts, nope, not it. Finally they decide that it had to be the transmission. (The car has not thrown any codes at all to indicate a problem). So they took apart the transmission.

I talked to them today and apart from no updates being done to the tranny (not completely sure what them mean by this) they say the transmission looks good. So the can either throw it back together for 1500 bucks or do all the updates on it for 3200 bucks, and it might or might not fix the problem. I've read several threads, but not many of them have a resolution with this vibrating under load problem. Any Saturn techs in here have any advice before I drain my wallet. Thanks so much!!!

Did they check the torque converter?

I would guess they did, but not sure. Wouldn’t that be something they would see when they took the transmission out?

I don't think they can tell much just by looking at it. And they were a problem area on these Vues.

...If they have the trans out, I would have them replace the converter, it was a known gm issue, with shuddering, also try to get your vehicle reprogrammed at the dealer for the transmision. When they do that ,it makes the converter not lock up in gear as quick ,and holds it in gear longer, so the vehicle doesn't lug at lower rpms in lower speeds, just my .02, DC.
