Default Buss Plate

Hi: I have a 98 sl2 with auto trans. I just got back from a free vehicle inspection at my local Saturn dealer. Besides a few minor problems I can handle myself, the service tech said the top transmission cover was leaking and was also leaking out of the electrical connection. He said the cover has to be removed and something about a buss plate and shim has to be removed and fluid drained and them reassembled. I not sure if any parts need replacing but the price he gave was 544.12. Is this a job I can do myself and if so is there any instruction here that will tell me how to do this. I tried looking in the other posts but can't find anything about this.I have worked on cars many times before but have never worked on a auto trans before. Thanks for any help.

first I would degrease and thoroughly clean the area that he was talking about and see just how much of a leak that it really has. Might turn out to not be so much a leak as a very slow seepage over years.

Keep an eye on your transmission fluid level.

I replced my tranny cover on my 98sl2.It was not hard, little time cumsuming.Use the dealer gasket. The plug on top of the cover is on with a 10mm bolt,i think that size is right.then just pull the plug off.I dont know what shim hes talking about. You do have to drain the fluid.Buss plate,I do not know what hes talking about there either.Good luck I think the part cost about $40
