Default SW2 Timing chain replacement

Just joined this great board. Have a couple of questions. I just got my 97 SW2 up to 100,000k miles. I looked over the service records from the previous owner and the timing chain has not been replaced. I have replaced a few timing belts before on different cars. Is doing a chain any different? If anybody has any tips or tricks I would love to hear them.

Provided the timing chain is not currently noisey, and the oil changes and more importantly OIL LEVEL has been kept up with, the chain does not need to be changed. A worn chain will give plenty of warning...the engine will develop a diesel like whirring/chatter that increases in pitch with engine rpm. Welcome to the 100k+ club. My own personal 97' SL2 crossed 100k a few days ago. I'm not planning on changing the timing chain anytime soon.

That is good to hear. All my previous vehicles have had belts so I am used to worrying . The old lady I bought it from had all the service records for it and she got the oil changed every 3k miles. I have also done it every 3000. I am using mobil 1 and not one leak.

Are there many saturns in this board with over 200K miles with the original timing chain?

Although I cannot swear to it, I believe the board member "Luke" who has well over 400K on his 95' SL2 is still on his OEM timing chain. (Though it may be his second) either way, at least one, if not both, have gone over 200k.
