I sure hope someone out there can give me a few ideas on this problem. i have a 97 SL1 115.000 miles it has been maintain great, now that cold weather has been setting in the check engine light came on! the code that was pulled out was a po340 which it said was a crankcase postioning sensor circut malfunction. According to the haynes book the saturns dont have a camshaft postioning sensor. last spring i recieved a misfire on #1 cylinder error and replaced plugs and wires and it seamed to take care of the problem. Can anybody give me any ideas on what could be causing the po340 camshaft postioning error!!

Welcome to the boards. It has more to do with misfiring I believe. Do a search in this forum or the tech forum on crankshaft postion sensor and you'll get more help then you'll need.

Your 97' SL1 does NOT have a "camshaft position sensor" in so much as it being something you can physically replace. This code indicates a detected misfire. Prime suspect in a SOHC are bad plug wires, corroded coilpack towers or bad plugs. (Pretty much in that order)

being a saturn owner i'd start replacing the cheap parts first spark plugs, wires, then coils to see if the code goes away.

You guys have been very helpful. last time this happen i replaced the plugs and wires and it was fine till the colder weather sat in. was going to try the plugs and wire again it has been about 7 months since the last plug and wire job but you never know. i would suppose that going in and out of the garage 0 deg to 50 deg corosion could be on the coil packs from condinsation. thanks again all for your responces.
