XR Transmission Fluid Change-Drain Plug Location

Hi,
I'm looking to drain and change the fluid on the 6T70 but I can't seem to locate what looks like an obvious drain plug. Does anyone have a picture or can they provide a verbal description of which bolt the drain plug is?

I've used these pictures and gotten under the car to no avail:

Automatic transmissions seldom have drain plugs. The usual method to drain them is to remove the bottom access panel and filter. There may be up to 15 screws holding the plat in place. You need a new gasket and filter to put is back together (filter may be a clean and reuse type) when necessary.

Best to take it to a transmission shop or oil changer because it makes a big mess if you don't have the right equipment to catch the fluids.

I have no direct experience with these Aura transmissions but I would be surprised if they have a drain plug.

The 6 speed with the 3.6L is "all new" and doesn't have a pan to drop or a removable filter. Dealer confirmed it's just a drain and refill. The 3.5L transmission is different, more as you described.

GM stopped using drain plugs on automatic transmissions back in the early '70s.

The dealer pointed out the plug location to me. It is about 4" from the front of the transmission and about 1" from the outer (driver's side) edge. Easily accessible without jacking the car up. It takes an 11mm socket. It came off easily, not much torque required.

A little over 5 quarts of fluid drained out so I would suggest having 6 quarts on hand before starting the procedure.

My car had about 55,000 miles on it when changed and the fluid definitely improved the shifting characteristics. The shifts in full auto mode are much smoother and the manual downshifts have also improved(not as jerky on engagement).

I recommend this as an easy and inexpensive way to keep the car feeling "like-new". The total cost was about $25 using Wal-Mart's Super Tech Dexron 6 fluid. The dealer estimate was around $125 for this service!
