Direct from http://www.gminsidenews.com/index.ph..._Product_Guide
For the 2009 Model Year: Saturn Outlook: Two-mode hybrid version of the Outlook will come in 2009 model-year. Buick Enclave: A Super model could show up in late 2008 as a 2009 model sporting a new 4.6L Ultra V8 with over 320 HP. This Super model could also have the leather-covered dash and multimedia system from the Enclave concept vehicle. Chevrolet Traverse: As expected, Chevrolet will get a Lambda crossover; to be named Traverse. The direct-injected 3.6L HF V6 will power the new CUV (as it will all Lambda vehicles) and an optional Ultra V8 is anticipated, however a two-mode hybrid Traverse is also under consideration. Production will begin in August 2008 at the Spring Hill, Tennessee plant. GMC Acadia: A Denali version of the Acadia will arrive several months after the vehicle's launch. It will be powered by a 4.6L Ultra V8, making around 330 HP. It is expected to be a 2009 model. |

I wonder how accurate that info is. For example, if the 3.6 is getting DI in '09, that alone would put it above 300hp from the current 275. The Ultra V-8 would have to put out quite a bit more than 320 to make it worth it.

I was just thinking the same thing. Of course, I think there is/was already a similar situation with the ... Envoy? I that case the V8 has more towing capacity, but also benefits from the cylinder cut-out stuff (I think).
Are all the dual-mode hybrids getting v8s, like the new Sierra? |

I can't comment on anything more than what's available on that web page. Who knows how accurate it may be, but it seems like a logical progression, especially in relation to GM's other new vehicles.
Regarding the new 4.6L V8, remember that along with that Horsepower (which I agree isn't much of an increase) probably comes quite a bit more Torque as well, which is more important for hauling/towing. ![]() Can't say if the Outlook Hybrid will have the V6 or V8. Either way, it's something to look forward to regarding options and fuel economy. Time will tell. I just ordered my 08 Outlook XR AWD so I'll be interested in seeing what becomes available with the Llambdas in the near future. I probably wouldn't have opted for the V8 anyway. If a Hybrid Outlook or Acadia were available now, I might have decided on one, but who knows how much cargo space the batteries and other components might take up and how much more it would add to the price? With the Hybrid on the Llambda platform you would most likely lose the spare tire (have run-flats) and it might only be available in FWD? Also, regarding the reduced fuel use/costs, the payback because of the extra upfront cost of Hybrid vehicles in most cases is anywhere from at least 3 to 5 years in the tests that I've read. It's definitely better for the environment, but if you tend to buy a new or replacement vehicle every 3-5 years or so, it doesn't make much difference cost wise. Billy B. |
