Default Dissolve the 2008 VUE forum...

The 2008 VUE has not been that radical of change, and to simplify this Forum... Why not stop segregating the 2008 VUE owners from the previous VUE owners?

Just like before if someone has a problem they would state the year, and power train combo...

I'd like to keep this website as simple as possible, and not let the 2008 owners feel like outcasts...

Yeah, it's kinda silly having a separate forum for the new model. People usually identify which year they have in their postings or you can glean it from their profile.

Best,

LOL, what's gotten into you, BobbyP? Not long ago it seemed like you wanted nothing to do with the '08 VUE.

I agree, though. It made sense when details on the '08 VUE were still coming in, but now that it's in its full rollout I think we can go back to a single VUE forum. Forums for other models often have separate forums for the different generations (Chrysler minivan, Honda Accord, and Toyota Sienna forums, to name a few), though, so maybe it'd be better to change the original VUE forum to "First-generation" and the '08 to "Second-generation." (Some will argue that the '06-07 VUE is a second generation model, but it's not different enough to count...the way that's done for the S-Series could be a similar argument, but for the most part counting those as separate generations are more of a fan thing; and, at least with the S, they changed the interiors and taillights for each generation, but the powertrains were always the same.) Other Saturn models are likely to keep their same names for subsequent generations, too, so I wouldn't be surprised if that's what this forum eventually moves to anyway.

LOL...it's not every redesign that Saturn (or GM for that matter) overhauls a model and keeps the same name!

I acutally like the dedicated 08 Vue forum. At the moment, I come here solely for information about the 08 Vue....We no longer have our old Vue and if we are going to get a new one, obviously it is going to be an 08.

I like coming to this forum so I know every single post is about the 08. If I want to read something about the old Vue, I'll look in those topic threads. So my vote is, for the time being, to keep the 08 Vue forum.

Keep them segregated for now. The 08 is different enough to be separated from the rest. There are so few of them out there for the time being that they would be come lost in the forum for 02 to 07 VUES.

The 2008 is so completely different, more than just a nose job and change of trim, that it warrants its own area for discussion.

Of course, if we overlook the following; body styles, body materials, engines, drive trains, interiors, suspension, and points of assembly, then perhaps a case could be made to combine the topics.

I read somewhere that the designers of the 2008 may have used a common stamped part between old and new designs somewhere in the floor panel.

I voted to keep the '08s segregated. I also come her to vent about my transmission and electrical problems within first week of ownership. This is my first Saturn, and I'm a firm believer in the K.I.S.S. principal: Keep It Simple, Stupid

The '08 Vue forum was originally only setup as a temporary forum to discuss the new model. I had intended on merging it with the existing forum during the next forum upgrade. However, I am open to suggestions.

Thanks for your feedback!

The more I think about, the more I think that it would make the most sense to rename the current VUE forum to the 2002-07/first-generation VUE, and the 2008 VUE forum to be the 2008+/second-generation VUE forum. Other forums use a similar setup and it will help when other models are redesigned in the future as well.

Realization. Some of my posts were harsh. My apologies to the 2008 VUE owners.

We should do everything we can to support the 2008 VUE owners. It may not be what the older VUE owners wanted, but blood is thicker than water. We should no alienate them in any way. Many of the same problems that they may have with their VUE's may already been solved with the previous generation VUE. 2008 VUE owners will benefit from our experiences.

The same logic why should I read all the posts about the 02-05 VUE's if I have a 06 VUE. Granted there's more changes with the 08 VUE, but underneath it's the same basic Theta chassis.

You should read all VUE posts because there's a good chance 75% of them could apply to the 08 VUE.

It will be a horror if Charlie has to make 08 VUE categories for the Green Line, Red Line, Mods, and Tech... I don't think that will be a good thing for this website.

Keep it as a separate forum. It is a totally new platform. I think Saturn and GM would agree.

No, it's very different. Your '06 VUE isn't that different from the '05; they have most of the same issues. For all your past criticism of the '08 VUE, you were always right that it is a big change.

But on the same note, will '02-07 owners really want to read about things that only apply mostly to '08 VUE?

I agree, and I'm also thinking that we really don't need all those subforums. It may be better to just have General, Mods, and Tech forums...many of the things that might benefit a Green Line or Red Line owner may help a regular VUE owner, too.

If you're talking about the mundane forums discussing, "Which oil should I use", ad nauseam, sure, then don't bother differentiating the years, but why even bother? However, I think these forums should reach higher than that.

You wouldn't suggest that a Corvette enthusiast website lump the '63 split window Stingray with a 1978 25th anniversary model simply because, underneath it's the same basic Y-car chassis?

keep'm separate.

Since the '08 is different, and since they are still discovering "recalls" for it, I think the category should remain separate for a bit longer. Maybe 'til we're actually in '08?

ThetaII was a big enough change to necessitate a Gen2 forum. Keep it the way it is and rename the forums as cdp326 suggested.

2006 VUE 3.5L
Default Re: Dissolve the 2008 VUE forum...

I voted to keep the generations separate to some degree.
The purpose being to allow forum members to be able to find relevant information more quickly from a more organized format.

An example of breaking down the generations that I can think of can be seen at OdyClub.com Forums.

I certainly welcome all new '08+ Vue members and I hope they enjoy participating in the SaturnFans/Saturnalia forum as much as I have. But I think that the redesign has made the '08+ Vues different enough (engine, transmission, drivetrain, body structure/style, interior trim, electronics, options, etc...) to warrant its own section of the forums. Because of the unique parts, many of the issues that crop up will likely be unique and so will the repairs. Possible mods will likely be unique to some degree as well.

In reading the threads, I find that that a number of people do not have their version of Vue in their signature and fail to mention what they have in their posting. I can imagine a lot of statements like "What do you have?" and "Oh sorry, I thought you were talking about..." A lot of people fail to use key words that makes the search function such a useful tool. It's happened in the past and I'm sure it will continue. Organizing the forum by major model year differences would help keep information within each section relevant.

There is a degree of kinship between the generations and I wonder if there should be a Vue category that then branches out into the '02-'07 and '08+ but I don't know how it would impact how Charlie has organized the forum. And if there is a general Vue forum, should there be a common General Vue discussion section? My guess would be that it would be more trouble than it's worth and too many people would post everything in this common section.

There are General Discussion sections that can be found HERE if you scroll down below all the models. I know I don't frequent those sections but I'm sure that there is a lot of great information there.

Charlie does a great job with the website. I really appreciate being able to voice my opinion and how we all have some input on how the forum is structured. Thanks Charlie!
