04 Saturn View 170,000 miles.
Hit a pothole & it stalls, find out the timing chain snaped! After inspecting, I find out the black plastic guide basically disintegrated. Upper bolt MIA & the bottom sheered completely off. I was able to get the stud out & replace the Chain, Guides, Cam Sprockets, Crank Sprocket, Oiler & Tensioner. All sprockets lining up as they should to the chain marked links. Try to start her up & get nothing. After some checking I find out I had it in TDC exhaust instead of compression when I replaced everything, so I redo it in TDC compression & still nothing, just a little backfiring, I'm definitely getting fuel & spark. After some more checking I see the Mark on the Harmonic balancer doesn't line up to the mark on the timing cover when in TDC compression, it's about 30 degrees advanced. How can that be when everything is keyed. Has anybody seen this before? Also, I've seen this video of a guy going through the four strokes & showing the cam lobe positions & they don't match what I have. Hoping somebody has some advice. Link to the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cfMfVi9nL_A Thanks for any help. |
