How can I tell I have a bad hood latch? I had gone to the junk yard and got a hood latch. Same problem hood will not shut completely. Inside the vehicle the plastic piece you pull to open the hood is loose. I am starting to think it could be my cable. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

No broken spring. It seems the cable is bad.
