Default Roof "flaps" won't open when closing top

The two "flaps" that are behind the seats are supposed to automatically flip open when the roof is being closed. On my 2008 Redline, most of the time they stay closed and I have to manually open them, which is a royal pain because they'' shut again if the roof moves too far. It looks like GM just ran down to JoAnn Fabrics and bought some elastic ribbons to move them. Any suggestions?

Sounds like the tension springs on the outboard side have let go. Because this whole piece is part of the rear body tonneau cover you may have to replace the whole thing like I just did. If you hold the door open does it have any tension and seem like it wants to close up. If it does the spring is okay and it is possible the small cables have broke. The cover is on Ebay at a great price. Sure was a stupid way to design these small doors.

There is some tension but apparently not enough to pop open. The cables keep slipping off the flaps. Why they even exist is a good example of stupid engineering in my opinion.
As we dig out of 4" of snow and slush I really don't think I'll be going for a run in the sun any time soon. How hard would it be to replace the tonneau?

Okay. I haven't been able to get the flaps to work correctly. So, has anyone had a shop fix the cables and connections so they work right? How bad was the damage? Something to save towards for this spring.

As I was raising the top I noticed there was a small hole in the one lift arm. It was where one end of the cable attached. I didn't get a good look as it was dark. Could this possibly be an Allen nut that can tighten the cable?
