Engine Compartment Cleaning

What does anyone suggest to use for cleaning an engine compartment?

Whatever you use, be careful around the top of the cam cover with water. Quite often when cleaning the engine water flows under the plug wires and into the plug wells causing a severe misfire

I use Simple Green. Put it in a spray bottle. Spray it on and wash it off. Do watch the valve cover. You may want to pull the plug wires after and make sure that they are dry.

Now I have a question. That I thought of the other day when cleaning my car. How do you clean the insulation that is under?

Any thoughts?

Cleaning the insulation might be tricky since it seems to be a kind of hi-temp cloth. I know that with my old van I used to drive it seemed to peel off later in its life. It was like trying to clean paper. (kinda tough)

Do you mean cleaning the insulation on the underside of the hood? If so, simply spray a detergent cleaner on it, then hose off. The water quickly runs down and off. Doesn't do any harm.

I am planning on buying a product called the "Steam Buggy". It is basically a household portable steam machine that can be used on various household items like in the bathroom and kitchen to clean and sanitize without the use of chemicals and soap. I am planning on using it on the engine compartments as many professionals use steam and you can easily control the distance and pressure used. It does the very best job at removing grease and buildup as well as salts and general gunk off of the engine compartment safely and precisely.

I USUALLY USE ONE OF THE TIRE FOAM CLEANERS. THIS WORK REALLY WELL ON THE RUBBER AND IT SHINES THE REST OF THE MATERIALS UP NICELY. JUST SPRAY ON LET SIT FOR 15-20 MINS THEN WIPE OFF EXCESS. LOOKS BRAND NEW. MINE HAS 143,000 MILES ON IT AND IT LOOKS LIKE A NEW ENGINE. GOOD LUCK!!!!
