Default 95 SC1 Air Dam.... GONE ! :-?

Hi Wise Ones! On my 95 SC1, the black plastic front air dam under the bumper just
fell off. It was hanging down a bit ever since I nailed a HUGE porcupine recently.
I think, that, plus hitting snow mounds, etc finally dispatched it without me knowing it.

I'm hoping this was just a cosmetic add-on but it also seemed to connect with a flat sort of
plastic shield that ran horizontally under the rad, fan, etc. That's gone too.

Soooo, what-a-ya think? Everything seems to still work ok but I'm wondering if it's
purpose was actually to protect the front of the engine/exhaust/O2 sensor area?

Thanks for any advice or past experiences.
Cheers, ..."Sadurn"

On my sc2 i've been told it was to deflect air up to the radiator as well. Im not sure, does the sc1 let air thru the front of the car more then a sc2?

replace it. i've been told by saturn engineering folks that it's used to direct air into the radiator and without it, there is a possiblity of saturns with air conditioning overheating in the summer. in winter it's probably no biggie, but you may want to replace it before summer when it's hot outside.

"Doh!" Thanks guys. Well, I guess I'll be looking through some bone-yards this spring. In the mean time, everything is still working ok. Fingers crossed, haa-haa.

In addition, it should be stressed that the Air Dam is not critical, simply an added feature, to "contribute" to effecting cooling of the engine. It is a contributing factor, not a critical one. Time is not of the essence, in terms of replacing your lost unit.
