Won't shift out of 3rd gear...manual transmission.
I was just driving home and stopped at a light in 3rd gear. My 2002 Saturn Vue 2.2 with 5 speed transmission wouldn't shift out of 3rd gear. It appears that the clutch is fine. I was able to rev up the engine enough and limp home. Any thoughts of what the problem could be? Is it something I can fix myself?

problem could be shift cable retainers at trans. or at shifter, make sure both cable and casing are secure. Or could have a broken cable

Can you move the shifter? If so, does it feel looser than normal?

Well...here's what the problem was. I followed the shiifter cables to the manual transmission. One of cables had popped off the little ball joint. (ok...I know I'm not calling these parts the correct names, but to us layman it will make sense..lol) I simply popped it back on and it shifted properly again. It will probably pop off again since it shouldn't have done so in the first place, but at least I know what to do if I'm on the road again when it happens.
