With the dissolving of Saturn, so is my relationship with GM. It's a sad day, but I figure I'll be sticking with imports from now on. Which will depend on what is offered when I need/want to buy a new car.

Sorry folks but it will be "other". Ford well I owned three and put transmissions in each one. Manual transmission on a front wheel drive costs a small fortune.

GM no the way they have handled Saturn you can bet that GM will not be my pick.

Chrysler back when Iacocoa ran it sure I loved it and owned three different ones.

Besides the VUE and Outlook we also own a Nissan 350Z which is my husbands "fun summer" car. Before you get all edgy over this he was a diehard Camaro fan. Owned and drove Camaro convertibles for over 30 years. When GM stopped production of the Camaro and it was time to replace the one he had let's just say we had a really bad experience with a Pontiac dealer in our area over the Solstice. That same day (dealer expected us to fill out a complete credit app before they would allow us to test drive the Solstice-like NOT) we drove up the road and came home with the Nissan.

So unless someone can convince me to embrace GM/Ford/Chrysler again............

Well my Saturn Dealer has been so good to me, I'm going to say I just may be buying what ever they sell next. I do not think they will loose the SATURN way, I think they will do everything to make me as happy today as they did in the past.

Since all my vehicles are ford products except my one sl1, which I bought simply for mileage, 67 Cougar Sunday trips, 2004 F150 Hauling/Towing, when my Satty is dead or parts are no longer availbe I will go with the new Ford Fiesta hopefully in Diesel if Ford is smart enough to bring that engine stateside. The day I buy import is the day I go take a dump on my neighbors lawn!

Seeing that I just bought my '96 SL2 this year, I hope I won't have to make that decision just yet. But if I have to make a choice...I'll buy another used Saturn from 91-02 in a heartbeat. The death of the new Saturns doesn't bother me so much as maybe the cost to keep an older one running. The S-Series were great cars and GM acted idiotically when they discontinued them...that's why Saturn went downhill. If they only kept the S-Series, I think Saturn would have thrived.

most likely a 2011 Ford Fiesta or Focus will be my next car. nothing from GM appeals to me except the Camaro but it's too big and heavy. nothing from Chrysler at all.

Default Re: Looking down the road, who will Saturn owners buy car from now?

I like the new Equinox and Terrain... that being said - I really can't see myself buying anything but Mercedes-Benz products from here on out. I have no immediate plans to get rid of my VUE - but after I purchase a house here in a year or so, I'll be ready to move on to something new.

I can't put into words how happy I am with my smart. My dealer sells smart, Mercedes-Benz, Maybach, Rolls-Royce and Bentley, and when I walk into one of their 2 locations - I am treated like I just bought an $85,000 car from them - that is how they have won my business. I never got the "Saturn Experience" from my dealer - I worked for a dealer when I bought mine so it didn't really transfer through.

Truck - Toyota Tacoma (I will need the 4WD for my future home in Northern Arizona, I have the land, near Williams, just need to build something there, another reason for a PU Truck )
Car - Subaru Impreza (also useful in the Snow)

Sorry GM, you lost me looooooooong ago. When you first "stuck it" to Saturn. (L-Series, Relay)
Chrysler? Not touching that with a ****-stick
Ford? The Focus is a possibilty. (Does it come in AWD?)

It's not looking good for the American Car Companies.

My mother will probably look at a Honda CR-V if not buy her VUE outright once the lease is up.

My brother intends to have his ION for the long haul - meaning until it no longer runs.

1997 SC2
Roll Eyes Re: Looking down the road, who will Saturn owners buy car from now?

I will keep my SC2 running as long as I can. I love my car. It is still delivering high 30's gas mileage tank after tank, which was the initial reason I bought it. But then I discovered that it is fun to drive.

But some day when I must finally replace it, and assuming I am still driving 75+ miles a day at that time, I may try a Chevy Volt (if GM doesn't mess it up or price it completely out of reason), or perhaps a used Tesla assuming I can afford one then (and can even find a decent used one) or perhaps (gasp, wheeze, cough) a Prius or Insight (gen-1 or gen-2).

Or perhaps I'll go the other direction entirely and buy an older turbo diesel car such as an MBZ 300SD like I used to own and try to go the bio-diesel route this time.

Or convert an old Porsche or perhaps even a Saturn to an EV with some of the latest batteries as several people I work with have done. Our employer will provide dedicated EV charging stations if you make enough noise about it. That is of course assuming I am still working there.

I don't know. Like a lot of others I'm sure, I feel a bit lost right about now but will enjoy my Saturn as long as I can.

While I would LOVE a new Camaro or an Avalanche, I can't stomach the fuel cost to drive one 75 miles every working day.

Saturn is dead, long live Saturn.

Anything Nissan..

They were my 1 true love before the S-series came along. Nothing else from Saturn appeals to me but the S-series.

I'm gonna keep my SL2 for a while, I'd still buy another S-series again if for example parts were actually still available readily to keep them on the road.
