General Motors is recalling 1.5 million 2007-09 model cars, trucks, and crossovers to disable a heated washer fluid system (HWFS) module that could pose a fire risk. Because the feature will be disabled, GM will make a voluntary payment of $100 to the owner or lessee of each vehicle. There are no known injuries or crashes related to the condition.

I used this feature on a Buick Lucerne, and it worked well on this car... A shame they couldn't work out the issues with it.

Wow. I'm amazed that they couldn't buy something comparable from one of their competitors and modify it so that the feature still worked. Just disabling it is IMO a Jack Legg solution.

Just confirmation that the G in GM is for Government... . Instead of fixing their mistake, they just send you a check and tell you everything will be OK.
So much for that new car warranty!

Yup - did not have any problems before they "fixed" it, and haven't had any since. Wonder if we can refuse the new "FIX"!?

Maybe if you sign x number of variants of waivers, just in case your vehicle goes up in smoke !!

Just another piece of bling, another unnecessary item that can break . . . . IMHO ! Thankfully not on my basic XE FWD

From the press coverage:

"This was a unique technology available from only one supplier, and that supplier has stopped manufacturing, which left no opportunity to collaborate on an improved design,"

I love this comment though, because if I recall the discussions from last year, GM made said supplier pay the costs of the original recall, forcing them into bankruptcy...

I park my Outlook in the garage every night. Don't need a fire that could burn up the Outlook AND my house.

Well, the statistics should be available - have there been fires in the same set of vehicles without the HotShot installed?

Taking my "hot little car" 07 Outlook in on Wednesday to be "cooled down".

Only this time NOT driving to Jake Sweeney in Cincinnati. I will be trying Reichard on Salem Avenue in Dayton. Yep Voss Chevrolet is much closer yet DON'T LIKE VOSS which is why I kept going, multiple times, to Cincinnati!

So we will see how Reichard does....keeping toes and fingers crossed until then.
