Default Re: Battery drain

Took my car to the Saturn dealer today. They told me what I suspected thanks to the wealth of information on this site-bad ignition switch. Quoted me around $215.00 to repair. I told them if they weren't going to fix it for free I'd pay for the part and do it myself. My only concern is having a small enough tool to get the t15 screws out that secure the switch. I haven't physically seen how tight of a space the switch is set in the steer column. Can they be taken out with a screwdriver with a star bit or would that be too big? I don't really know until I get in there unless I have some advice from others. Thanks.

Oh..........I'm a little concerned about the relearn process. If it doesn't work, can I install my old switch back to use again or will it have to be "relearned" as well? This is for a worse case scenario and I HAVE to take it to the dealer for them to program the switch. Thanks again.

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

I wanted to thank all who replied to my posts over the past couple of days. I installed my new ignition switch this evening with minimal problems-the relearn process didn't go as planned the first time but it finally worked. Thanks for all your advise. I saved the wife and I $200+. Next it's on to a motor for the driver's side window-they wanted $300+ for that! My car only has 30,000. Way too early for parts like this to be malfunctioning.
