2008 Astra XR
Default Wiper Replacement

I currently have Bosch Icons on my Astra and not only do they streak terrible, they make a noise when changing directions.

I also notice that the wipers themselves wobble when being used.

My question is, are these problems all caused by the Icons or am I dealing with slightly separate issues?

Any suggestions for other wipers? I'm leaning towards purchasing a new set from the dealer because I can't imagine that GM would sell this car with OE wipers that do this.

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

How old are your wipers ( we usually replace ours every 6 months - 1 year ) ?

We have Bosch ' Evolution ' wipers on ours ( and other vehicles ) ..they work great...

It must be just those wiper blades. I replaced my stock ones with the cheapies from Costco and they perform the same as the stock ones did.

I don't think they are more than a year old, but they have done this since day one. We haven't had much rain this summer, so I have just been noticing it and it has reminded me.

It is important to understand that sometimes car wash soap isn't enough to really clean the windshield. I found a product called "No Touch Auto Glass Stripper" years ago and use a cheap 6" orbital polisher to really buff the glass maybe twice a year before applying some Rain-X. If you can't find it, something with a mild abrasive like VIM would also work.

i just picked up a pair of goodyear blades from Costco with a BOGO coupon. $9 for two blades and they are made in the USA. i will tell you how they work after they replace the windshield. i am still using the set i had the dealer put on under warranty over 3 years and about 23k miles ago. they dont streak so i am leaving them on for a while.

i guess parking in an indoor lot during the day, and garaging the car at night really makes them last longer.
