2009 VUE 3.6L
Default Replacement muffler for 2008-2009 VUE XR V6

For those of you, like me, who would refuse to pay 960$ for a replacement muffler for a vehicle that is estimated to worth only 3500$, here is an alternative that my local muffler specialist found out.

Instead of trying to find a non-existing generic replacement muffler, my specialist just passed in review all the car/SUV he remembered that were equiped with dual exhaust just like the VUE. Then, he measured the distance, center to center, of both pipes and checked which one would allow passing a pipe somewhere near the suspension without getting in contact.

Solution: Mazda CX-5 Sport 2.5 L. With a few modifications (adding holding pins, mainly), and fitting a small piece of curved pipe to the original straight one, he made it! 350$ instead of 1200$ (including parts and labor) and my VUE is now running quiet!

If this can help someone else saving big money... We have to think out of the box!

Was your muffler damaged in an accident? A muffler shouldn’t wear out, it’s not normal maintenance to have to ever replace. Was your car too loud due to damage?

When you live in the North, rust can be a real issue after this many years. My 2004 exhaust is showing some spots that will likely start leaking in the next couple of years. Thats with being diligent on cleaning it, and getting the undercoating to prevent it. Probably the only reason it's lasted this long is because we've only put a bit over 50k on it.

2003 VUE 3.0L
Default Re: Replacement muffler for 2008-2009 VUE XR V6

my 03 v6 had a rusted hanger when i got it. picked up a nice 3.5 muff at yard for $12. had to get an adapter for it though. 3.0 is 2.25" pipe and 3.5 is 2.5" pipe. been a long time since i went to AZ for muff adapter. than i found a new SS muff this past fall at yard for $12 again. i couldnt pass it up. sold it in 3 days. i guess some folks like them

i have a taurus now and it needs a muff. i found 1 car out of 30+ at yard last spring that had a new muff. you can look for months and never see a new muff in yard. seems none ever changes the factory galv muffs unless they fall off. i got rid of former taurus last spring and got another one this summer. muffs always have holes on the top surface
