Hey pierrot....guess what? When I left Advance Auto today with my thermostat...my engine light was still on....I had asked the guy there to take a look at my car and he popped the FCM down better so the clips actually hooked back in...I couldn't get them back in when I was jiggling the FCM to try to get it out...so I hit it down as best I could...resulting in my fan to stop running....

Now after he messed with it and the engine light still on I came home and then I had to run some errands...so I get in my car and now the engine light is off!!!! It stayed off the whole time I was running my errands, and going to visit a friend in the hospital to back home to get the kids off the bus!!! And my temp gauge stays at the 1/4 mark to about a hair over even when I am running my car just warming it up....so I am completely confused now....LOL

Well, I can certainly understand the confusion! "Whooda thunk it?"

If it were me, I would do nothing for now. Give it some time - a couple of days, a week, or two weeks perhaps - and get an idea of how the cooling fans will behave. This is what I'd suggest (as an owner DIYer, not a professional): when you've parked your car after completing a trip leave the engine on and lift up the hood to verify whether or not the fans are engaging. Do this at least three or four times over a period of days - your choice as to how many - or check it daily (assuming that you have no check engine nor wrench lights appearing and remaining on at the dash console). You may also want to check the fan operation at start up as well in the same way (cooling fans will never engage at start up when functioning correctly).

If the temperature gauge seems to hold the level referred to in your recent post, if the fans engage once in a while, or not at all depending on engine and ambient temps, then things are probably okay. Leave the thermostat replacement alone for a while. Who knows, perhaps you may need do nothing at all? However, if the car acts up again then you know what you're going to do.

BTW, I didn't receive a p/m from you. No need to be concerned. I will send one to you.

Awesome!! I received your p/m...hopefully you got my reply...

I will leave it alone for now...car seems to be running fine actually...no weird sounds, rattles, etc. I will put it to a real test when I have to take my grandson to Delaware on the 18th...it's about an hour trip so if anything is going to show it should be then...and if it does..I hope I won't send myself into an anxiety attack...hahaha!!!

Your help has been tremendous and I really appreciate everything!!!

My cooling fans have started to stay on all the time since I had the engines changed out last week. The tech that did it couldn't find the issue but asked that I should run a scan on it and it came up as the downstream 02 sensor, knock sensor and coolant temperature switch circuit high. We also went over to the one I took the engine out of and pulled the O2 sensor connector out and didn't fix the problem. Switched out the fan module with also no cure. I disconnected the battery cable for 30 min as stated in another thread on the same issue with also no cure. After reading this, replacing the sensors that show problems with hopefully are the culprit. I don't know any other things to try than replacement of the items that show codes. BTW, the fans didn't stay on until the next day I got it home and started it in the morning.

The cooling fans are running because of the coolant sensor high code. I would switch to your old sensor and clear the codes. The fans should return to normal then. My fans locked on high when I had a thermostat fail to close all the way, I had to clear the codes to get it back to normal after the repair.

That was my thought as well. I unhooked the battery cable yesterday again, hooked it back up and the fans shut off until I shut the car off. Next time I started it again they came back on. That tells me the defective part needs replaced before I clear the codes again. I'll give it a try and hopefully will be the culprit here. Thanks for your suggestion.
