Default Met Original Owner!

Backstory: I bought my car last year at the beginning of spring from my best friends father (Ed). The shifter bushing broke and he bought a new car because he thought it was a more serious issue. Ed was going to send it to the junkyard when I decided to run to the interwebs to save this car. Little did I know there was a giant community of helpful saturn owners many of whom have had this issue before. So we bolted the shifter cable to the shifter and it drove like a dream. They sold it to me for $400 because they didn't know if anything else would break (like the sub-frame rusting to pieces ). The car is a sl1 with nothing special except for abs brakes and an awesome name (The Sportster).

After owning the car for a year I have always been curious about the background of the car before I owned it. I asked Ed and he said he bought it from his brother Randy who is the original owner. Randy lives in Minnesota somewhere so he doesn't visit much. Lucky for me my best friends grad party was today and Randy showed up. He told me how much he missed driving a 5 speed so I let him take it out for a spin. It was really fun talking to him about the car and I hope I let him know it was in good hands and not going to the junkyard any time soon. Here's a picture of me on the left and Randy on the right.[/IMG]

Turns out he has an sc2, Vue, and an Ion but I totally forgot to tell him about this site. Maybe he will stumble here someday. Thanks for reading!

Nice story. That car looks way too nice to junk, glad it made it into good hands.

Really nice story, glad you found him,

Id like to find my original owner too. Who ever it was didd'nt drive the car very much for a 2002 (11 yrs old) I bought it with 47,877 miles on it. I know it was garaged too cause the paint is immaculate, and I know it wouldn't look like this if it wasn't garaged, cause today its 110 here in phoenix and the sun fades paint out here big time.

My car is the spitting image of yours, I've got the equivalent of about 115 k miles on mine (186,000 km), how about you?

I think the dark blue 95 SL1 just happens to be the pinnacle, it has the updated dashboard and the new-for-95 stronger SOHC engine for excellent fuel economy, together with the best-looking (in my opinion) original bodystyle. Also, you can barely tell it has black bumpers and door handles because the paint is so dark.
I did put a set of BMW 'bottlecaps' rims on mine, but I'll put the same wheel covers back on this winter when I swap in the snow tires.
