Default Engine Block Heater Scam

I ordered the Engine Block heater option with my new Saturn Outlook 2008 XR. This option was $75.00. Now the dealer just called me back that this does not include the cord with it. The cord cost additional $90.00. No where does saturn indicate that you need to buy the cord seperate or there would be additional cost for cord. This not the cord that goes from the vehicle to your wall socket. This is the cord from Block heater to the front of your hood. So why is Saturn selling a Block heater without Cord?

Does anyone else have run into similar issues?

No where in Southern California is it cold enough to have one of those but I am certainly curious about it since the order guide only lists "Engine Block Heater" and no specific info.

Give me choices in powertrain, great handling and decent MPG and I will buy a Saturn again.

From everywhere I read, option code K05 (engine block heater) is a $50 option.

I worked for a dealership in west Tennessee, so we never ordered anything with the block heater, but something sounds fishy here.

According to the Saturn price lists published on 12/19/07 (which I just pulled to double check) the engine block heater is $75. It says no where on the price list that it requires anything extra, which it would if it did.

This sounds like an "oops" at the factory, someone forgot the cord and the dealership may have never seen one with a block heater - I honestly can't say I've ever heard of anyone ordering this option, so this is feasible.

I'd highly recommend calling the Saturn Customer Assistance Center for more insight. They have direct links to corporate and can help you get to the bottom of this. Even dealerships use this resource if they've got a question they can't answer. The number is 1-800-553-6000.

Some time ago, I recall reading a post about someone using a 100 watt bulb under the hood to heat the engine block. Although both our vehicles are garaged, on extrememly cold winter nights, I slide a utility light under the block in the vicinity of the oil pan and I find that it certainly makes a difference. Both cars seem to start easier and warm up faster.
