2000 L-Series 2.2L Sedan
Default 2000 LS: A/C not working

I have found a broken aluminum line within the A/C system on this 2000 LS, which BTW, has all the bells and whistles, i.e., heated seats, heated side view mirrors (neither of which work), but that's another story.

I would LOVE TO be able to obtain a drawing... SOMEWHERE...of the A/C system, showing all it's components. The aforementioned broken line goes to a canister-shaped component that is mounted down low, at the front of the car on the driver's side. I'm sure that there is no charge in the system. It has been broken since I bought the car 3 years ago. But, as I said, getting a drawing of the system, showing all of the components/lines could go a long way, as far as being able to replace needed parts and repairing the system myself. A loonnng way from shelling out hundreds of dollars for someone else to do it.

I want to say a heartfelt thanks in advance for any information, assistance, or expertise ANYONE can provide. It will indeed be appreciated A LOT!

Here, where I reside...in NC, dog days of Summer are already upon us full swing, so having to drive anywhere that takes longer than a few minutes gets to be a miserable trip. Thanks again... VERY MUCH for any and all help anyone can give me.

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

sounds like its a line going to your drier/receiver shouldn't be too hard to fix. Does that line come off the Condenser or go to the Expansion valve?

jupitersaturn, if you can, please use the 'User CP (control panel) and then 'EDIT YOUR DETAILS' or 'EDIT YOUR SIGNATURE' to include either 2.2L or 3.0L V6 engine. This helps by informing anyone you model, year and engine without asking you repeatedly.

As suggested, most GM online parts sites have drawings to show parts. Once you determine which hose line needs to be replaced, you can try rockauto.com for varying prices. Your choice to use GM or third party parts. I can state with certainty - third party ac parts are fine and less costly than GM parts. I chose a less expensive condenser coil, drier (the canister next to the condenser coil) and hoses several years ago and have reliable ac for several years after repairs. I perform all repairs using equipment necessary for repairs comparable to dealer or repair shop.

Its a safe assumption of losing all refrigerant in your system. One way to tell is to depress one of the two ac service valves (covered with black caps) slowly. If any refrigerant remains, a slow hiss may be a tell tale sign otherwise zero hissing means all refrigerant was lost. Repairs can be as simple as replacing damaged parts yourself and leaving the technical evacuation using a vacuum pump and gauges to a repair shop or complete all repairs on your own with equipment (already on hand or borrowed from Autozone).

REWARD EXCELLENCE!
