2008 VUE 2.4L
Attention 2008 VUE XE Brakes dragging and locking

Greetings,

We have an 08 Vue XE that recently(80k miles) started exibiting brake issues.

My wife informed me that the care was extremely low on power and she had to floor it to get up even the slightest of incline. I have been trying to track down a slow dissipation of brake fluid over the last couple months which left me stumped, but nothing else has seemed out of sorts.

Upon initial inspection, everything checked out, with the exception of low brake fluid, so I drove it to work. After about 15 minutes of stop and go freeway driving the front started to shake and I noticed I was turning 3500 RPM to maintain 65MPH and pulled over. Brakes were hot and the vehicle would not "creep" when in gear with no brakes applied. Pumped it a few times and it started to roll again. Finished the trip to work and it reappeared on the way home and I had it towed.

Since then I have:
- replaced the calipers
- replaced the front hoses
- Discovered the MC was leaking fluid into the booster and replaced it
- Flushed the entire system and bled

Immediately after finishing up the flush and bleed of the system I went for a test drive. The problem re-appeared within a couple miles and the lockup was even stronger than before. Both the traction control and ABS lights are now on.

I am getting the following codes:
- C0131 "ABS/TCS Pressure Circuit Malfunction" code
- U0140 - "Lost communication with Body Control Module" (BCM)

I have read the overwhelming amount of owners with this issue accross all of the GM sister models in this class and I am appalled that no action has been taken by GM...oh well.

Has anyone narrowed this issue down to any specific piece/part of process to date?

Any information or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Eric

Nobody?

Did everyone trade them in or abandon them?

Did you search around here for any threads similar to yours? If ABS is interfering with braking, do you feel comfortable removing ABS fuses to disable it? ABS/TC enhances braking but can be bypassed completely for testing purposes while retaining braking as if ABS were not installed. A few problems are related to faulty ABS activating at the wrong time and disconnecting power to it disables it temporarily for troubleshooting.

Yes, I have perused numerous threads and information within the site.

I'll give that a try as well.

I'll be doing the BCM connector lube to potentially resolve any fretting issues.

Thanks for the reply.

This is the answer. It cost me lots of money and frustration to find it, and I stumbled upon it by sheer luck and us just giving it a try just out of "what the hell" frustration. I ever called Saturn to complain after seeing that this problem is ALL OVER THE NET and they gave me the run around, and refused to recognize their Saturns have a faulty break system.. Seems they are more comfortable with their consumers sitting on the side of the road with their tires on freaking fire, then recognizing any responsibility for the issue .The line to the caliper corrodes at the clamp, and blocks the fluid from flowing backwards and releasing the break pressure. Mine actually got so hot it melted my A/C hoses and lug nut covers. Go to Youtube and put in "Brake Hose Blocked, Stuck Caliper" and it will show you the video. I tried to post it but it will not the forum does not allow it. We actually did the wire test he does.

Most dragging problems come from the booster rod.It is not allowing the master cylinder to completely release the pressure. There has to be some play between the rod and the master, it is adjustable. Because the lines do not flex, the lines must be removed and the master removed to access the rod adjustment. I reach in with a long pair of pliers to hold the rod from turning and then reach in with a 7 mm socket and give it one whole turn clockwise. That usually does it. (To verify this is your problem, jack up vehicle and tires will not turn, open line at master and wheels will free up.) EVEN A NEW MASTER or BOOSTER HAS TO BE ADJUSTED. i have repaired many this way.
