Question 2004 Vue front brakes locking up

Driving home last friday the car felt sluggish. When I pulled in the drive I could smell and awful burning and could feel heat from the front driver's side wheel. Passenger side also seemed hot, though not as much.

Took it into our local mechanic who tried, but could not duplicate it. Since I wasn't 100% sure both sides had failed to release his first thought was a left side caliper. Before they could put that on he said they did get it to lock up on both sides, but he felt that both calipers failing at the same time would be a long shot.

They replaced the master cylinder yesterday and test drove it for 15 miles, no problems. They dropped it off in our driveway and as the mechanic pulled it in to park he noticed it felt like they hadn't released yet again, so they took it back to the shop.

Not sure where this us. Assuming that the chances of both brake lines are as likely to fail at the same time as both calipers, what else is the possible common cause here? He was thinking maybe the booster pump, but from my reading that's not a likely point of failure. I also that a bad ABS sensor could do this, but wouldn't that apply a full braking instead of just not releasing intermittently?

Had same problem...replaced both front calipers and hoses on both sides. All appeared to fail at about the same time. Mechanic said it took him a little time to figure it out as all had to be hot to stick. And it took differing amounts of heat to make each side stick which was what was fooling him at first.

Problem solved.
