Temps have been getting extremely cold these last few weeks, combined with short stop and go trips = worst tank yet- 26 mpg.

I live in Minnesota where last week (maybe two weeks ago) with windchill the temp outside was -51 Fahrenheit. I took a trip to check on the 'rents, and drove the 155 miles up to Grand Rapids. MPG on the trip up was 38.92. And on the trip back, I got 39.75 mpg. This is with a 2001 automatic sl2 (125,000 miles). I didn't go above 65 mph on the way up, and not more than 61 mph on the way back. I mostly cruised in 55 mph range.

I have NO customizations.
Run full synthetic
Cheap 87 octane from SuperAmerica
New tires
Need to change outer tierod ends
Need alignment
Have a HIGH idle at low speeds
About to clean EGR, throttle body, tps, iacv

In the city my mpg is just over half of hwy results. City driving I get around 20 mpg

This is the 3rd tank I have checked, we also had the -13 F low temps, -26 F. wind chill. 37.4 mpg, I am thrilled! This car has over 225K! (1999 SL1) There were some times of warming up sitting still. Standard trans.

I can't touch that.

My daily commute is only 5-6 miles one-way, and it's all city streets, so I'm averaging 28-29 MPG in the SL1.

It just SIPS gas on the highway though... on the odd occasion it sees the highway. Since it doesn't have cruise control, it rarely gets road trip duty. Maybe I should look into retrofitting CC into it someday...

33.81 last fill. It really sucks combining short trips in cold weather. But on the bright side, that's a low return for this car.

The other day I was considering taking the truck out for a ride and filling the gas. Then it hit me, if those tanks were in the Saturn I could go 1500+ miles between fills.

Back up to 38.58 last fill.

Temps came up some, and not as many really short trips. Maybe 100-150 total highway miles out of a 400 mile fill. Gas sipper for sure.

Had the opportunity to do some all highway driving last night. I covered 150+ miles after topping off the tank. So in chilly hilly Connecticut I did a respectable 31.98 mpg (* Respectable for me and my SW2 since we've been averaging 24 mpg most of the winter)

Its nice to see the fuel gauge needle move slower than usual.

36.75 MPG last fill

Outside temps all over the place, from fairly cold to mild. Lots of short trips and more city driving than usual. Still in the 9 cents per mile range, so I shouldn't complain, but the colder than usual weather has my 2014 average down to 36.38 MPG.

This sub-zero weather is killing me. The last 2 fillups have netted me 26.5 MPG each due to my relatively short commute. I drive all the way to work (just over 5 miles) and the engine never makes it up to operating temp. The heat's just starting to warm up and the trip's over.

The last 2 days have been in the 40's, and the engine's getting nice and toasty in no time. MPGs should improve, I'd guess.

Last fill up was 32.3, before that was a hair better. I've gotta fill up tonight or tomorrow, but I'd imagine it's going to be more of the same. My commute is 50/50 city/highway for my night job, and more 70/30 city/highway for my day job. I may invest in an EZ-Pass to cut out some of that city driving once the weather warms up.
