What grade/viscosity do you use in your engine?

I use 5w30 for performance and fuel economy (like owner manual says).

Valvoline Synpower 5w-30. If I switch to Mobil1 it is because it is easier to find but as I use Blackstone Labs for oil analysis Valvoline has performed to perfection. I use the Penzoil synthetic in our Grand Marquis with no complaints also 5w-30.

i've used quaker state 5w-30 in my racecar since it was new. every time except for once when i couldn't find it and used valvoline.

prolly not the best oil on the market, but i feel the big difference is that you ARE changing/checking your oil regularly.

WalMart high mileage 10w30 every 3K miles or less. 5w30 has too much VI in it for me if it is conventional oil. You would think that as many ring soaks you read about here that they would finailly figure out that extended changes with 5w30 is gumming up rings as VI cooks out of oil in them and is mistaken for carbon. SYN oil would not be as subject to this problem nor would 10w30 conventionall oil be. I have never had stuck rings in nearly forty years of driving and never used 10w40 or 5w30 either as they were knows for this. GM had major problem with stuck rings in 80's from 10W40 and it is the last oil "grade" you should use in a modern engine.

anywhere from 0w30 if I can find it to 15w40 if it's summer and I've got a burner.

This poll assumes one has a consistent climate and only one car in their fleet. Also you didn't include 0w20 or 5w20, not that either is recommended but the poll is incomplete.

5w30 in winter (November-March) and 10w30 in summer (April-October). Both Castrol conventional oil. I change oil grades at about the same time I install or remove my winter tires.

I use Valvoline High Mileage oil. 10W-30 in the summer, 5W-30 in the winter. I'm not on the whole synthetic hype.....maybe for a newer car, but I don't want to change my over 100,000 mile car to synthetic when it's used to getting dyno......every decent mechanic has told me there is no use in switching to synthetic in a non-race car or a car that has over 75,000....and I'm old school like that. Besides I switched my 96 SL2 over to synthetic and it did nothing but burn more oil.....and my 2000 SL2 doesn't burn oil, and I'd like to try to keep it that way.

I have a few questions about this high mileage oil?

What is different compared to say castrol gtx dino oil?

When should one starting to use such oil?

I am curious, my current car, a 01 Kia Rio (I know, I know, cheapo) has currently 250K and I've always used castrol gtx, started with 10w30 and one really cold winter I had trouble starting the car to the point I had to get a boost because I drained the battery trying to start it, and after that always used and still use 5w30 and there are absolutly no leaks.

Now that I have the 02 sl1 with 76k I was planning on continuing the tradition unless I am convinced that the high mileage is actually better?
