1998 SC2
Default Re: eliminate wheel hop

I got some nasty wheel hop the last time I was at the track. It was my first time there with a LSD. I couldn't launch to save my life! 2.5 60' FTL. Anyway, I have the SMS dogbones and they do great. I have a crappy strut tower bar I'm looking to replace. I just filled in the dead spaces on the TAM with Windo Weld. I haven't noticed a big difference but I have been in any situations that'd likely induce wheel hop. I'd wager it'd cut down on it.

Nah, it's the PG. OK, it's not a true LSD. Still better than the stock open diff.

There are three versions of the dogbone mounts; they will all interchange with each other (same mounting points and size), but the third-gen version is the only one that the Prothane mounts will fit.

actualy they fit the 1st mounts and the 3rd mounts. cuz even tho they say the 3rd mount style is its own style, all they really did was convert back to the 1st style.

well i left off the word gen for a reason cuz the mounts didnt chainge the same times the gens did. i cant reember what years used the 2nd mount but 94 is deffenetly the first mount so they will work.

i wish i could remember where it was i saw all that info on the mounts

I'm thinking about taking the saturn to the track in the Spring, and I don't want to embarass myself...
1) get rid of the OE Firestone Firehawk tires. they are bad m'kay
2) don't spin your tires while cornering
3) brakes? or clutch from launching at 4000 RPM too many times.

hmm... I get 2.3-2.4s 60-ft times with the stock open diff and OE tam and dogbones. how are you launching? try something less than 4000 RPM. say around 2500-3000 RPM to chirp without hop.

naw... doesn't the 4000 rpm neutral limiter put you right in the drag racer launch sweet spot?!

the open diff is great for burnouts because it automatically transfers all the power from the wheels that grip, to the ones that don't...

You only blow your diff pin from spinning out while cornering? I don't understand what it takes to blow the diff pin... my launches suck because I'm so afraid of peeling out even a little...

its not the pealing out that makes it break, its the sudden traction that does lol. a little spin is good for drag but not much at all, really u dont need to launch any higher than like 2600-2750 max, any more than that and ur spinning ur tires too much.

basicly dont do burn outs for fun. and if u get stuck somwhere that u can only get out if u floor it spinning ur tires, have someone pull u out insted. lol other than that i wouldnt worry too much

Ya. Before I knew about the diff pin problem, I used to dump my clutch and burn out all the time. Never had it go. Don't worry to much, but don't burn out just for fun.
