Slight squeak and rattle noise from dashboard?

Hello everyone,

Not sure if any of you have experienced this. I've got an '04 Ion Sedan, it's been running great! However I've been noticing this squeak and rattle coming from what sounds like the right side under the dashboard but it could also be in the engine compartment. I've tried tracking it down but can't seem to find the source. I even thought it was the hood joints getting squeaky.

It does it a lot in the cold mornings but after it's almost non-existent. Anyone have any ideas? Oh, and I have to have the radio off to be able to hear it.

sounds like its just from the plastics shrinking due to the cold, which allows the parts to slide around a little.

Your interior is almost all plastic, so it will def creak now and then... i just hit it until it stops.

However, dont confused it with your struts though.(suspension) like when you go over bumps and stuff.

I noticed when it's really cold like this morning (-22 celcius..), the shocks makes a lot of squeak noises when I go over bumps or holes on the road.. Much noisier than previous cars I drove.

Turn your radio up. I had an '85 S-10, it used to make all kinds of niose, so I put in a Kenwood headunit, 4 Pioneer speakers, and a Kenwood 12" (12 pounder) sub and 600Watt amp. I never heard the noises again, and the thing never broke down on me.

I don't think it's the plastics. I think it's the busings. I had a Saab 9-3 that used to do that in extremely cold weather. That's what it turned out to be when I asked about it at my dealer.

My 05 will squeek sometimes, but hardly ever... Just going over big bumps.. My fiancee's 06 Ion, squeeks constantly.. I narrowed it down to the plastic piece covering the center IP will move slightly, causing a squeeking noise.. I'm taking it into the dealer to see if they can fix that.. You might want to look into that.

Mine gets an incessant "buzz" around 2500rpm from where sounds like the right side of the IC. Haven't taken the time to have the dealership rid me of it - I usually do like Uzzy w/ the music

The dealer won't rid you of it. They'll take it for a ride, and tell you it's normal and there is nothing you can do about it. They do that because it's normal and there is noting you can do about it. Saturns are plastic on the outside, plastic on ther inside, and have a pretty poor build quality when it comes to things like panel gaps. They are cheap cars. Mechanics at the dealership get the squeaks and rattles all the time, and 90% there is not a damn thing thay can do. The IONs are a little better than the S-series as far as squeaks and rattles go, but I'm telling like it is. Get used to it, or buy a Bimmer. Germans don't have words for squeaks and rattles

Thanks for all the info everyone. I made sure it wasn't the shocks although a bushing could be it. I had thought of that since I've heard about the bushing problem with these cars.
