Default Need Help with Cords under hood

My 2007 GL died on me the other day and we thought it was my alternator and my husband removed it but we couldn't find a place around here to check and after I called the closest GMC dealership which is about 150k away I was told due to my GL only having 55k miles on it, that it couldn't be my alternator and I needed to ck my battery. And sure enough the battery was no good.

Okay now my husband has put the alternator back in but has to 2 cords at the top that plug in to something but we can't a find place for them to plug into.

This is a # that was on one of them PA6GB20 GF10

One is skinny and black and the other larger and purple.

According to service manual there are two wired plugs that connect to the starter-generator. One with 7 wires and another with 2 wires. See thumbnail of that diagram.

I don't see any extra wires with mentioned colors. However, vehicle diagrams can have errors.

I know nothing about GL - perhaps we'll get lucky - and someone owning one can offer useful advice.

Thanks.. I'm wondering if maybe these are for when you have to hook your car up and have it checked when the ck engine light is on. All the other cords that plug into each other are marked with a red mark and you can tell where they go together. These to cords have nothing on them. And our Service manual was no help..

Could you take a photo -- once saved -- click on paper clip - above the box you post in - photo will be attached as thumbnail.

Many folks very much smarter than I could recognize the errant wires.

The cords are not really long enough to go any where but right infront of the black plastic cover that goes over the motor.

I'm baffled ... they look important ... but does the Vue run with the connectors "blowing in the breeze"?

As previously stated - best hope is for another GL owner/operator to pitch in.

My GL will start and run without these cords connected to anything but my check engine light, battery light, & incline light is still on. I've also notice that my hybrid gauge is not moving like it should. There was a recall on the hybrid batteries and I had them replaced this past October.

OK ... it appears they do have a mission ... to be sure I understand - the hubby removed the starter-generator - but to get to that had to remove other equipment items. Basically correct?

I suggest you send an email address by PM and I'll send the extracts needed to remove the starter-generator. There are too many to post. Perhaps the instructions will remind your worker-bee of something he had to disconnect to get at the SG.

I located two connectors in service manual that look very much like the two you have dangling - based on contact layout and shape.

Both are supposed to be connected to the Starter-Generator. See thumbnails.

Two other connectors in same section are connected to the Starter Generator Control Module.

Are we absolutely certain the starter generator has been reconnected?

okay when you take about the starter generator are you referring to the alternator? Because the alternator had 3 plugs on it and they are plugged back in. They are matched up due to the red marks that have been put on the black cords. When we plug them all back in they matched up perfectly. These 2 cords have no paint on them like the ones that connect to the alternator. He has taken it apart twice and can't find where they go to. my car starts and runs but the warning lights are still on.

You have exposed the fatal flaw in my knowledge of GL Vue.

I actually thought the truck had a combi starter-generator to get engine cranked and to charge three batteries to keep systems powered when the engine was not operating.

If your engine has a standard alternator - in addition to the SG - I'm of no help to you because I can't find documentation to sort that connection out.

You are correct, the motor/generator replaces the alternator--there is no standard alternator. I'm headed out to our GL now to compare photos.
