2008 Astra XR
Default Astras can be Saturns too!

Greetings,

I'm in Arizona and have owned a silver Astra since 2009. An XR automatic, 3-door hatch, with those cool 18" rims. It has been a fine vehicle and is still in great condition with low miles.

It is an interesting car, as an Opel transplant to Saturn, brought out in 2008 after the Ion was ended (as many of you know). I think it was a great idea, a neat little car, and just what Saturn needed at the time. But it was a little too late. It couldn't save the brand by itself. Nor could the Outlook, Relay, Vue, Aura or Sky combined! The lineup was looking really great back then, and it is too bad the brand couldn't continue. Lots of lamenting here no doubt.

As the car ages, it will be very useful to come on and look up advice and solutions. I also own a 1995 Jaguar and am active on those forums. It would be difficult to keep up on a car like that without the forums. Same applies here. The Astra is just about as rare as the Jaguar these days!

Next project is to replace the A/C clutch coil, and I've already found some related threads.

Thanks all, glad to be joining in.

Can you post a few pictures? I like the astras, probably going to be my next car if they prove reliable as time goes on.

Default Re: Astras can be Saturns too!

Hello cgg.

Not my pics, but representative of my car. The 3-door hatch is sharp looking, much better than the 5-door version (in my opinion). Get a good look with a Google search, Images.

We only got one model year, 2008, so if you want one of a particular style and/or color, you will probably have to go some distance to find it. There are few low mileage examples left, but they seem to be generally reliable. Mine is, the only real failure being the a/c compressor clutch.

It's not a powerful car, but it is still fun to drive! The 18" wheels really stick to the road, handle well and look good.
