Default Need "how to" on changing an SL2 rear door skin.

or whatever you call it. The plastic only. Is this an easy thing to do? I have a 95 SL2 with a huge hole in the rear door thanks to an oops and run incident in a parking lot.

I see it uses hex screws but is there more to it than that?

Thanks!

Those are Torx bolts. If you haven't already, you should pick up a set. They are used all over the car. As far as skin removal, what you see is what there is. You may have to lift or slide on some panels, but thats basically it.

I've recently removed the front door outside panel. I'm sure it is similar. Here is a description. If there are subtle differences I'm sure others will help out....

You have to pull off the black plastic strip from along the top edge of the panel. This is the plastic at the outside lower base of the window.

You have to lift the outside door handle and remove the 2 plastic retaining pins that hold on the outer portion of the handle. To remove the pins, you have to push through the inner pin with a thin small screwdriver or similar tool. Then the rest of the plastic retaining pin will pull out. Find the little inner pin. You can re-use these attachments when you reassemble.

Remove all the Torx screws. Work the door skin until it comes free. There is some weather stripping that may stick to the door skin a bit.

Hope this helps. Don't force anything. Once you do all these steps the door skin should come off easily.

Paul.

Cool, thanks. Any ideas where I might find the skin online and acutall find one of the same color?

Where do most of you look for used parts online in general?

Finding a match in color for a used rear door skin will take some hunting on your part. What colo are you looking for anyways??...and which rear door, driver or passenger?
