Attention SAturn LW2 2000

Hello all,
I have a Saturn LW2, 2000 which has 112000 miles on it. i have been experiencing some problems since yesterday. I was driving my car yesterday when the check engine light came on. i got the code scanned at auto zone( P1406) then when i was driving back from the store, the car stalled when i was at a stop sign. The car started immediately again when i tried to start it.

the problem;

When the car is in idle the rpm needle is below 1000 and it keeps falling down to 500 rpm and rises up to 1000 again. this keeps happening.

Pleaase suggest what i should do?

Thank you

DTC P1406 EGR Valve Pintle Position Circuit

Either the egr valve is sticking from exhaust deposits, requiring cleaning or its worn out/damaged and requires replacement. Try removing it for cleaning first.

Stalling is due to the egr valve sticking open at idle where it should be closed; egr valves open to allow exhaust gases to feed into the fresh air intake manifold for emissions control. Its closed at idle rpm otherwise the low idle mixed with exhaust gases will lower or kill idle rpm - stall the engine.
