Default Rough Rider stalling on the slow down

I have a '95 sc2 that i have been haveing a problem with. when i decelerate at a stop i have noticed that when i get between 1k and 2k rpm the rpms will surge. also the engin will run rough when it is warm at around 2k rpms. if i try to stop when it is running rough it will stall out, the rpms just fall to zero. (reving the engin sometimes helps bring it back) Some times it will stall when i don't feel it running rough. many times it will happen more often when i have been driving at 50 mph+ and then slowing down or stoping. any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Well, it could be many different things including a combination of 'em. Here's a list of possibles in no special order.

1) Vacuum leak.

2) Marginal/bad spark plug wires.

3) Weak or corroded coil pack - one or both.

4) EGR is not working right - EGR valve sticky.

5) Worn plugs/carbon tracing on insulator/oil deposits on insulator (caused by leaky cam cover gasket).

A diagnostic check is $35 at my retailer, so that may be a reasonable place to start.

Or read the trouble codes:

<a href="http://www.lowsaturn.com/diag2.html" target="_blank"><!--auto-->http://www.lowsaturn.com/diag2.html</a><!--auto-->

<a href="http://www.lowsaturn.com/dtc.html" target="_blank"><!--auto-->http://www.lowsaturn.com/dtc.html</a><!--auto-->

This won't point out all problems, but it's a place to start.

My 92SL did the same but never ran too rough. If you are mechanically inclined. First check your trouble codes. It may be the egr valve. Mine turned out to be the preset idle was screwed up (which is set using the battery voltage). So make sure you check that yourself with the proper manual or tell the dealer to check it. I wasted $40 on a mechanic and $100 on the egr valve because I bypassed the dealer the first go around.
