2004 VUE Red Line
Default Anti theft system

My 2004 Saturn Vue Redline has the light on the dash with the little car with a padlock on it. When the light comes on, the car won't start and I have to open the hood and wiggle the battery cable. There's no rhyme or reason to when this happens. I have noticed that if I use the remote start it seems to happen more often, but it does it when I don't too. Any suggestion is greatly appreciated.

If you are simply wiggling the battery cable, without loosening it, I would take the cables off, clean them and the battery terminals, reinstall them and tighten.

Ok, did that and still having problems. I stopped using the remote all together and only use the key to unlock, then use the inside button to lock. When I push the inside button to lock, it dings once, then I can push it a second time to lock it. On occasion, I'll get it, put the key in, all the bells and whistles are present, then dead when I turn the key. No inside lights, nothing. Have to do the battery trick again. Yesterday, tried to start it and all lights went off. I pulled the key out and was preparing to get out and do the battery trick when the lights came back on. It started. The other thing is, it will crank and crank but not start. I have to turn the key back, pull it out, put it in again and try to start it. That usually works. Has anyone had these issues? And if so, how do I fix it? I'd pull my hair out if I had any!

2003 VUE 2.2L
Default Re: Anti theft system

I wonder if your going into a tamper mode, then when do the wiggle thing with the battery terminal, that resets it. (My theory)

My 2003 uses the Passlock system. I disabled it by soldering a resistor into the system.

http://www.saturnfans.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=215634

There are two ways to do this

1) Measure the resistance of the passlock resistor, then select a resistor of that value and solder it into place (This is what I did) , OR

2) Solder in a resistor (5.6 ohms) then do the 30 minute re-learn of the system.

Several months after I did this, I also installed a remote starter, no problems. It worked without doing any special modifications, bypass modules, key boxes, etc.

Ok, today is a first! I'm sitting in my car with it running in a parking lot waiting for the store to open. It just died! Turned the key to off, back to on. Dead! I'm sure when I come out of the store I'll have to do the battery thing. Maybe not. Who knows? But what's going to happen if this happens while I'm in traffic?!?!

So the answer to that question was, as soon as I sent the last message, there was power when I opened my door. So anyone that lives near Elko, NV., there may soon be a silver 2004 Saturn Vue on the side of the road. The keys will be in it for you!

UPDATE: Sitting in the parking lot waiting for physical therapy, the car tried to die for a split second, then back to normal. I'm doing nothing more than sitting here idling. This is beyond words frustrating!

That doesn't sound like anti-theft. Bad grounds can do weird things. When you said "dead" what exactly does that mean, i.e. when you turn the key to ON and get ready to start, are the instrument panel lights on?

Take a look at this:

Nope, no lights, no ding, no nothing! Then poof, just like nothing ever happened! I'll take a look at that when I finish with physical therapy.
