I actually considered the fuel issue, but always understood that it was winter blend gas that would negatively affect fuel economy. I buy gas almost exclusively at Costco.

I put on 2 new tires fairly recently, and got the car aligned at that time. I doubt that new tires would negatively affect fuel economy this much.

Just wanted to post an update. Just after I filled up, I swapped out the oxygen sensor, and then a bit later, the air filter. The air filter had been changed 12,000 miles back, and didn't look all that dirty, but I figured it was worth a shot. I didn't know how to test the oxygen sensor, but again, in light of the fairly low cost of these items, it was cheap enough to just swap them out.

By the time I got around to filling up, my mileage was up to 26.7, so at least things look like they are moving in the right direction. I pumped up the tires to 35 psi all around, and look forward to checking mileage again at the next fill up. Having paid $4.539 for gas this past time (and I shopped around!), I'm hopeful that maybe the oxygen sensor was just getting lazy, but not bad enough to trigger a code.

REWARD EXCELLENCE!
