Default 2008 saturn vue interior light problem.

After getting my 2008 saturn vue, i noted that the passenger sun visor was a bit droopy so i asked the dealer to order a new one. After the dealership installed the new visor i noticed that the light would not go off in the inside of the sun visor, so i took the car back and asked them to fix the problem. My guess is that they let the car sit there all night and early into the morning with the sun visor light still on because when i got the car back for them the part of the sun visor were the light is was melted and not only did they no replace the visor but now my interior lights will only come on if the doors are open. I checked all the fuses there do not seem to be any blown, but the lights still will not work this includes the above head lights, the reading lights, glovebox light, and the driver side sun visor light "because there is not a sun visor in the passenger side anyone". I can't figure out the problem, how do the lights work when the doors open and close, but if i push the button for the light to come on with the doors closed nothing happens?? I need help this has been going on for over a year and no dealers can figure out the problem. I just want my lights to come on when i push the button

I have wiring diagrams ... I'll take a peek and offer a few suggestions - will probably be tomorrow before I can post them.

Unless you are willing to pull it apart and check the switches....check power at the switch with it pulled apart etc, then you will be reliant on the dealer to fix it.

You say they did not replace the visor with a good one? That is where you start. If the visor is melted there maybe a short in the visor. You first need to remove the visor light from the equation completely. Don't just remove the visor light...need to remove the entire visor and harness to it. All lighting is in parallel.

To get it apart, you will first need to post some pictures of what you want to take apart. But you start by removing the thing that created the problem initially. For some reason that visor would not shut off. We need more information. Is the visor a vanity mirror with a door on it? If so that vanity mirror door has a switch. More information required.

Start by removing the visor and the associated pigtail wire + connector.
My guess is a relay is fried because of a short in the visor. It will happen again however unless you replace the visor. It is unacceptable if a mechanic changed the visor + light and it melted. They have to not only replace the visor but fix the issue. Who worked on it? A GM dealer?

Possible you fried a relay that powers all the lights. But before addressing that, you need to take the visor off. If grumpy posts the wiring diagram, it will help.

I don't have a 2008 Vue - so must refer to GM service documents to determine how interior lighting should operate (not always accurate for a specific model vehicle and year).

It appears there are four switches on the Dome Lamp control fixture. I suggest you have owners manual in-hand to see how each switch operates or does not operate.

The diagram indicates the front map lights are independently controllable by separate switches, there's another switch to manually select courtesy lighting (including map lights), and the last switch is a DOME OVERRIDE to inhibit interior light operation.

There are two lighting fuses in I/P Fuse Block (next to front passengers left foot on 02 - 07 Vue). Check to make sure both BCM Fuse's (VB2 - 20A and VB5 - 15A) are good.

I've attached diagrams for you - or electrically oriented assistant - to troubleshoot the wiring (both as thumbnail and PDF), and also attached FSM extract describing all interior lighting functions.

According to diagrams the body control module (BCM) controls general interior courtesy lighting based on three different requests:

1. When keyless entry is used.
2. When door or hatch is opened.
3. When manual interior light switch is active.

I don't see how opening door or hatch could activate BCM courtesy lighting circuits and same lights not also be activated by DOME LAMP CONTROL fixture unless: (a) the BCM has internal failure, or (b) Dome Lamp fixture has bad switch or wiring.

I also note the BCM has a separate lighting output for use by front reading lamps, sunshade lamps, I/P Compartment and second and third row reading lamps. I would think this circuit would be available at all times but FSM text indicates its only powered when BCM is "awake" (door/hatch open, or key in ignition).

I note gm7's comments regarding passenger-side visor lighting issue. It would be a good idea to make sure the visor is electrically disconnected.

I'm having an issue with my interior lights on my '08 VUE as well. If I use the overhead dome switch the lights come on and off but they don't activate with when the doors or rear hatch are ajar. The indicator on the dash however does show an ajar state. Using the remote to unlock or lock the vehicle also no longer turns on the interior lights. I checked VB2 and VB5 both of which appear to be fine.
Am I possibly looking at a bad BCM? Where would I find this on the vehicle? Any particular part number?
