1999 SL
Default Combining SOHC and DOHC engines

Hi All,

I picked up a 1993 SC, DOHC, Auto, all the options. It has a hole in the block from a thrown rod. I also have a 1999 SL, SOHC, stick, AC & power brakes only. The SL runs good but, with 140,000 miles on the clock it has a drinking problem (oil).

The blown '93 DOHC may have a piston smacked into the head or it may not. I haven't pulled the head yet to check. Assuming the '93 DOHC head is good I'm looking into going through the '99 SOHC bottom end and '93 DOHC head and putting both together to be installed in the '93 SC.

I've read through the S Series swap guide and I'm not entirely sure I understand exactly what I can and can't (should and shouldn't) do.

If the '99 short block needs pistons are the early low compression or later high compression pistons better? Which, ECM should I use? Should I use the newer fuel pump from the '99? Which fuel pressure regulator, the adjustable one? What questions should I have asked but didn't?

Any help is appreciated.
