Wrench Unlock Your Radio

I've seen countless posts where the owner by misfortune or the other has a locked radio and aside from calling the dealer there seems to be no other solution...until now. Without further ado...

Stop letting the GM dealers charge you $50-$60 or more to do this procedure that a five year old could do in less than five minutes! Here you go:

1. Press and hold presets 2 and 3 for about 5 to 10 seconds until you
get 3 digits on your display. This is the first 3 of 6 digits you will
need, so write 'em down.

2. After doing step one and writing down the code, immediately press the
AM/FM button to get the last 3 of the 6 numbers you'll need, and write
'em down. (if you wait too long between steps 1 and 2 and the LOC code
displays again, just start over).

3. Call this number, it's a prerecorded message, so don't worry about
having to talk to anyone...1-800-537-5140. The voice will ask if you're
calling for Chevy, Pontiac, Cadillac, etc... When you here,
press the number of your choice, followed by 02107 and hit the # key. He'll ask you
for the 6 digit code that you've written down. Enter that and press the
* key. He will then give you a code, and the option to get additional 4
digit codes, but one should be sufficient.

4. Follow the normal procedure in your owners manual for unlocking the
radio with your new the hour set button on your radio until
you get the first two numbers of the code, then press the minute set
button until you've entered the last two numbers. Immediately press the
AM/FM button once the correct code is entered and the code SEC or
"secured" will be displayed on the display screen. Now, just turn the
radio on, and your ready to roll.

To give due credit, I stole this from Jeremy in the W-Body mesage board.

I just bought a used saturn SC1 2001 and I've tried this a million times and the screen never gives me the radio code when I hold down the 2&3 buttons or with 1&4. My screen actually says 'LOCK' instead of LOC. I've called the local saturn dealership and they keep transferring me around and are not helpful. I've called the Saturn main line and they say to go a dealership. Any ideas? I'd really appreciate it!!

Hi, I have an SL1 and none of those worked for me either. Try holding down 1 and 2. I did that and it gave me some kind of code. The number I called and the resulting code that I received have yet to work for me though. I don't know what is up. Maybe you'll have better luck though.

Just wanted to add to this post since I've experienced this twice this year with my 2001 SL2. I tried all the advice given here, called both numbers, the automated one plus the live one, went to the dealer which actually gave me the same unlock code as the automated number did (my code was 5555, unlock code given was 5967)

Long story short, I ended needing to disconnect my positive battery cable momentarily for a quick repair and after reconnecting it BAM, what do ya know, the radio came right on!

So for anyone that did all the work to get your unlock code and it still didnt work, try disconnecting one of your battery cables for a few seconds and see if that helps. Worked for me!
