Default Sl1 rebuild

I decided to rebuild my single cam engine. Had machinist hone block, polish the crank, valve job on the head.also decked the head.i will reassemble as he wanted additional 500 for installing pistons and crank.
He provided the master kit for the rebuild. Thought the overall cost to be a little high,but I may be out of touch with costs these days( and I waited nearly 8 weeks to get it back.)
While pistons are out, I will do the oil control modification. But I digress ,

My question is this, is there a gasket or Oring for the oil pump pickup tube? While I disassembled it I did not see one. Thanks

about the pickup: I don't remember !

I found a few old threads concerning the cracked heads on SOHC engines.
Several of the posters are qualified Saturn techs with lots of experience.

It turns out that Saturn had determined that there were casting/metallurgical issues in the head which were also at fault.
Then, as OldNuc discovered, there was the head-torqueing issue as well.

Should be an oring on the pickup tube. Should also be in the gasket set.

Heads can and do crack however I suspect most of the bad heads have long since failed. Keep your temp in check and you'll be fine. I never let my temp get above 5/8 on my gauge before I cycle the a/c to make the fan run. The miles I have speak for themselves.
