Default Secret fuctions of the Astra

Hey Everyone,
I was reading a few posts of late and realized that there are many things that our cars can do that are not in the manual, like exterior lights that stay on for a given amount of time...

I thought that it would be helpful if we put into one string all the secret functions of our Astras. This way we don't have to comb through looking for all those finds...

So what have you discovered that is not in the manual?

1. The correct procedure for resetting the OLS.
2. The correct procedure for adjusting RainSense sensitivity (there isn't one)

Overall, a pretty poor job on the manual. There probably ARE a function or two that are left out...let's see what people can find.

Besides the aforementioned "headlight on delay" and "left/right park light on" functions, there is one feature that comes to mind and I can't remember if it is in the manual or not:

If you leave a door open beyond a specific length of time, the dome lights will eventually "time out" to preserve the battery.

This really isn't a "secret function," but it isn't in the manual. There is a slot on the inside of the fuel filler door and a corresponding tab on the bottom of the fuel cap. When you refuel, you can conveniently hang the cap on the door rather than let it hang against the car.

In the XR3 (not sure about the other) if you need more space in the back the seats will lock down FLAT into place - even if you have to wedge your body between the seat and headliner to do so

Also, the gas cap locks with the car locks. I didn't know this and almost broke the lid off the first time... Not sure if it's in the manual.

This could have been a nice feature but it gets a thumbs down from me - annoyingly swipes when passing through R when putting the car in park!

Not sure about a secret function but your cruise control will not work if you have not pressed the brake pedal.

Knew about the interior light timer and the brake to set the cruise control, those are in the manual. But I did not know about the fuel door lock. That was quickly found out before I did any damage to it. I do want to know if on the 5 door are the rear window switches backlit? When I recently bought the car I could swear that they were lighted, but now they do not work. Or sometimes, (most of the time), the right rear door when opened will not put on the interior lights. The left one will always actuate the front and rear dome lights. Is this just the first of a lot of electrical problems to come?

If you're walking up to your car and hold down the unlock button, the windows will automatically roll down.

I knew about that one but I wish they would go up when holding the lock button.

After the windows are all rolled down, the windows are not made to roll up again by using the remote because this is a safety feature. I guess if you are actually inside the car using the door switches, it is much less likely that no one will get their head or fingers pinched in the window. Inconveniant but understandable.
