1995 SC2
Default Revolutions Per Minute

Hey. It might be a dumb question but, How high does your car rev at 70? I have a 95 SC2 and it is a five-speed. At 70mph it registers 3000 rpm. The only prob with that is, my girl's sunfire is only 2200 at that speed and its a 4spd auto!! My mom's 4-spd auto elantra-2500 at that speed. Is 3000 revs normal at 70mph for a 95 sc2 with a five speed?

You can't compare different cars with different engines and transmission and gear ratios. Of course they won't be the same.

3000 RPM at 70 MPH is normal for a 5-speed manual SC2. don't bother comparing other vehicles since they have different gear ratios and tire sizes. some engines are lazier than others look at a V8 6-speed manual Camaro or Firebird sometime.

Ok so... Here's my next question. If my sat now has the standard 15 inchers, but I put 16s or 17s on there, will the revs at that speed get higher or lower with the sizes? (sorry if its a stupid question)

not much if you get the correct plus size tires.
the closest in outside diameter to 195/60-15 is 205/50-16 or 205/45-17

Technically, if you put tires on there that actually have a larger diameter, the RPMs will go down when you are actually going 70. However, they'll be the same when your speedometer reads 70 because your speedometer will be off. You shouldn't do that. Different engines are more or less efficient at different RPMs. That's why it's not reasonable to make the comparison you are making.

Saturntech and others are right about comparing other cars with yours. Barnowl is right about what the result will be about changing the OUTSIDE diameter of the tire. Your car will roll further with each revolution of the wheel at the same RPM. But again he is right about the RPM will be the same at the INDICATED 70 MPH because the vehicle speed is not based on wheel speed.

Two words of caution about going this route. 1, your speedometer will be in error as Barnowl said. When it says you are doing 70, you will in fact be going faster, just remember that when the speed radar is pointed at you. 2, be careful about tire rub in the wheel wells.

Im not sure if you can do this on a Saturn, but ive heard on some cars you can adjust a certain setting in the transmission that will make the spedometer read accurate with larger tires.

I've heard that the PCM can be reprogrammed to go from 14 to 15 inch wheels but, not for anything else and I could be mistaken about that.
