Dizzy Last minute Purchase!

Yesterday my daughter traded in our OLDEST Saturn. It was my former 1998 Pearl White SL2 that had been redone to have the 1999 Homecoming package (Seats; mats; door inserts; Instrumentation cluster. It also had a high compression head; headers; lowering springs; Enkei alloy wheels; Borla Cat-Back exhaust; side graphics; bronze window tint; 12 disc cd changer; 21 hp package from SPS; strut tower brace, Gold Package; rearemblem two tone painted.

It had 86,000 miles on it and was starting to have a few issues.

She decided to take advantage of the low interest rates; the higher than book trade-in values and the $500.00 Target card for her favorite Dad

She bought a 2006 ION QC 3 Black Onyx/Black Interior (Auto 2.2 liter) with rear spoiler; ABS/TC; 6 Disc CD/MP3; Travel Package; mats.

She also got the 5 year wheel/tire warranty; 5 year 100,000 miles B to B extended warranty and the Polyshield 6 year protection package.

This makes it the 39th Saturn that our family has bought.

It was bittersweet trading the 1998 as it was the first Saturn that I owned that I went all out on making it the car that I wanted. I believe that they are going to wholesale it and I may try to be there to buy it and get it restored. Will have to see what I can get it for.

I will put some pictures in my gallery today of what it looked like BEFORE my daughter got it (She unfortunately let it go down hill)

OK Saturn!!!! When do we get the FREE one???

Good stuff... I got a 2006 I3QC in Pacific Blue and I'm loving it. Congratulate her for me. But doesn't it come in 2.4 litre?

What is a 5 year wheel/tire warranty? Surely the tires aren't guaranteed to last 5 years.

The 2.4 is only for the "3" model IONs, but you have to order the "Enhanced Performance" Package. This package is $995 and has the 2.4 ecotec with VVT, Sport Tuned Suspension and ABS/TC.

If you don't get the package, you get the 2.2 engine, the ABS/TC is a stand-alone option.

"Repair or replacement of flat tire if repair is not possible, or wheel if damaged to the extent it fails to seal with the tire."

"Coverage of all costs associated with the repair or replacement of tires and/or wheels plus labor charges including mounting, balancing, valve stems, taxes and towing."

This is right from the warranty paper. The tires have to have at least 3/32 of tread to be covered and there is a total limit of $2,500.

Pretty cheap insurance, especially if you have alloys or in my case the 17" wheels that are on the "Red Line" ION.

I suppose that means go driving through a residential construction zone during the roofing phase when the tires have about 5/32 left??

In the US they dropped the ION.1 sedan near the end of the 05 MY and 2006 ION.3 models have the 2.4L optional, like ClapDaddy explained.

That's what we did.

Well, not exactly. We had two road-debris incidents about 1,000 miles apart. Both right side tires replaced, then we had them rotate the new ones to the two front tires.

So in other words, we have two brand new tires on the VUE at 50k-something miles, and one brand new rim. And the tire warranty and our dealership both are rather unhappy with us. I'm betting if we killed another tire, they wouldn't replace it at this point in time. The rim alone was like $900...

Congrats on number 39 Clapsaddles.

What I want to know is, where's the Saturn commercial?

PlumSL1 clarified it for me... we Canadians get ABS, Sport Suspension, 2.4 standard on the I3. In addition to that, we can upgrade and get the following packages:

Travel $290 (thermometer, dimmer and more lights)
Sport Appearance $725 (panels, mouldings, brighter lights, exhaust)
Tech $1635 (Onstar, lights, 6 CD, thermo, dimmer, lights, gauges, etc.)

So overall, we get a sweeter deal! Check out our version of the I3:

Well, we've never had an ION 1 QC offered in the US. We get OnStar standard on all models though. Height-adjustable driver seat is optional on the 2 (standard when we had an ION 1 sedan offered which didn't have it).
