2000 SW2
Default Ignition lock cylinder problem

Thanks everyone for all the information and videos in previous threads.
I had a problem with my 2000 SW2. Key worked great right up till it didnít.
Anyway I pulled the lock cylinder and replaced it with a new unit from Standard.
I coded it to fit my original cylinder to use my original keys.
It worked but not as good as I thought it would. So I went to a local Chevrolet dealership and had two new keys cut from my VIN number.
Wow, had there been a lot of wear on the original keys.
So now it all works just like it did in 2000! YEA!

Take one of those keys and hide it away and use it to make a new copy every year. Always keep a virgin to make fresh copies from.
Most cylinders fail because of old rounded off keys.

I've never gotten a new copy yearly, just whenever I think the "old" key is getting worn. Maybe I should do it more often if the cylinders wear... this has actually been on my truck. I haven't had the Saturn long enough, but I have a key for it set aside now.

I did get two keys made for the Saturn, and I was disappointed to find neither will open the trunk. I just realized a few days ago, that I need to have one of the old keys in the car just in case I need to use the spare tire.... the inside lever is stuck and without an old key I could be on the side of the road with no access to my spare tire and jack.
