Dizzy Wheel into a Pole

Hey guys, my fiancee has a '07 Ion and managed to smack the front drivers side wheel into a pole from a stop. She thought it was in reverse, stepped on the gas and it being actually in drive, ran the wheel into the cement bottom of a light pole. (I believe her wheels were turned to the left some when she hit it)
I was only able to take a quick peek at it in the parking lot, the wheel was still on so it was difficult to have a good look but and all I could see was a bent Tie rod. This is one thing I havent had to do yet on a car, but from what I read and what I saw I will have to replace the inner and outer tie rod on that wheel and then an alignment would be next. Is there anything else I should be vigilant of? I am going to do a general look over of everything once I get the tire off tomorrow. Also any tie rods better to get over another brand due to reliability etc? Thanks.

most suspension parts are only available from chevy/gm/saturn, not too many american deltas need tie rods. honestly, on these cars, for this, there is no reason to go aftermarket.

as far as damage assessment, compare everything on the side she hit to the side she didn't. the front ends on these cars are pretty stout, but if she managed to bend/break the tie rod, make sure. also, make sure the steering rack doesn't have excessive play now. my ions have always had no slop in the wheel.

Well I am doing some more digging currently (I have access to the GM Service Information Website). They do not say how to replace the Inner Tie Rod by itself, only how to replace the Steeing Gear which from what I see is the entire steering housing. BUT...O'Reilly's lists an inner tie rod and an outer tie rod as seperate parts that they stock. Another Tech here at work seems pretty confident that I can replace the inner tie rod by itself. Anyone had to do this that can vouch for that?

Thanks 2006, O'reilly lists the inner and outer tie rods for a grand total of $82.99 which seems reasonable enough for me. I'm sure dealer parts would be more than that?

you'd be surprised how inexpensive the dealership can be at times. I would definitely think the tie rods would be replaceable separate from the steering assembly. and I love the snow, too bad ions are crap in the snow without winter tires. thankfully I have some.

Well I got the parts and replaced the inner which was bent and the outer which was worn out and was surprised how simple it was. Oreilly's carried Moog and I was very happy with them since they included some loctight and torque specs for the inner which I could not find on the GM site. I had counted how many turns the old outer took to come off and threaded the new on the same amount. The tire is much straighter than it was but still off some in Toe, so an alignment is in order.
I am going to have the Toe done to fix that and have the Camber checked as well. Do Ions even have the option of Caster adjustment?? Dont want to get burned on that if they dont and am charged for it anyways.

I just did the struts on my stepdaughter's 05 and the camber is readily adjustable but the caster is not.

Can I get confirmation that Caster on the 2003 Saturn ION is not adjustable?

If it is out, how does one fix a bad caster?
