Default p0171 p0106 p0506 DTCs...troubleshooting advice?

P0106 - Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) Sensor
P0171 - Fuel Trim System Lean
P0506 - Idle Speed Low

I've seen posts saying that P0171 points to a clogged or dirty injector problem, but that wouldn't explain P0106. I can't hear any intake leaks, what is the best way to test for those? Are these engines prone to vacuum leaks at any certain locations (injector seals, intake, etc.)?

It isn't the MAP sensor, I swapped sensors and throttle body with another 2.2L and the problem stayed with my car, the other one kept running normal. Operation is normal, it never dies and seems to run fine. I just installed new plugs and a new fuel filter (120k miles) which had no effect.

Does anyone have the system troubleshooting steps for P0106? I found the steps for P0171 and it refers to P0106, which leads me to think I may find the answer in the P0106 troubleshooting routine.

Swapping the sensor to another car realistically tells us nothing, as the car won't instantly throw a code. It throws a code only after it fails a certain number of checks. It isn't constantly checking every sensor, it checks at different intervals for each sensor. P0106 has to be the sensor, the wiring, or the connector. or you could have a leak in your intake system. what it is depends on what year, engine combination you have. I have a feeling all three of these codes is caused by the same problem you are thinking is an impossibility, but I can't tell for sure until I know what you drive.

I put my old MAP sensor in my wife's 2.2L Vue about six weeks ago, cleared the codes from my Ion and they came back using the Vue's MAP sensor, so I do know that the MAP sensor is fine. Her Vue has not set any codes during that six weeks with my old MAP sensor. I didn't just do a quick swap for a few minutes, my old sensor is still in her Vue.

The car is a 2005 Ion with the 2.2L engine.

I agree that all three are likely caused by the same issue. A leak in the intake/induction somewhere would explain all three codes. I don't hear any hissing, and a quick check by spraying brake cleaner around the intake with the engine running did not do anything to engine RPM, but a leak seems like the most likely problem.

Replace the throttle body seal and intake manifold seals. They should be cheap enough, and should eliminate leaks that would cause these codes. Since you have a MAF sensor, you could also have a leak in your intake tubing joints or the maf mounting flange, so check those for tightness.

I checked the MAF seal last night and cleaned the MAF wires, although they looked fine, no residue at all which I have seen on other cars.

I'll change the TB seal. What kind of seal does the intake manifold have (silicone, RTV, fiber)? Hopefully they aren't too bad to replace?

I'll probably use a tube to the ear to listen around different intake/induction areas first to check for leaks.

Thanks for any additional suggestions.

They are like the tb seal, only a different shape. One per cylinder.
