2000 SL2
2005 VUE 2.4L
Default The right code reader

OK,

Can anyone tell me which code reader I should get to read the code for my 2005 VUE? I have taken it to Autozone and their code reader doesn't show an error code.(service engine light is on, AGAIN)
Which one should I get to read the codes. I get tired of paying 89 dollars everytime to take it to the service center(which used to be the Saturn dealer)

Thanks

Those things that we do...

2000 SL2 154,000+ miles
2005 VUE 111,000+ miles

2007 VUE 3.5L
Default Re: The right code reader

I have the Actron 9580. $148.00 dollars at Amazon. It reads engine and ABS codes but not transmission codes.

I know the readers I have used at Autozone don't read transmission or ABS codes. So it could be your trouble code is one of those.

I did some research before I bought my code reader. The only reasonably priced one that I found that would read, engine, ABS and transmission codes is the Equus 3150 and 3160. Those were around $200.00 at Amazon. And even then there was no guarentee it would read an 07 Vue ABS or Transmission. Otherwise your looking at some highend ones in the several hundered dollar range. I saw some TECH II code readers on Ebay for $1500.00. That sure would be nice to have.
