Default Left side, front & rear turn lites remain on

After shutting engine off.
This is on dear old Mom`s `08 XE with 10k miles on it. First "problem" with the car so far. A restart cleared the condition.
Not sure if this is related but she mentioned having some difficulty turning the ignition key to the "start" position also. These 2 things happened simultaeneously.
Does this sound familiar? I normally hang with the S Series crowd and know very little about the Astra line.
TIA

You must have hit the left turn signal switch, if you do that after you shut off, I think the door even has to be open, it will turn which ever signal you select on It is for safety on the side of the road.

And the steering wheel lock is somewhat picky about letting you turn the key. Make sure the steering wheel isn't agaisnt one of the stops when she's turning the key.

Yep, and the car will beep after you hit the turn signal. Also, if you hit the brights as you exit, the headlights come on and stay on for 15 seconds or so after you exit the car.

Thanks for the suggestions. I can see how the turn signal could have been snagged while dear old Dad (83yo) was exiting the car.
Can this be a case of an "un-documented feature"?
I`ll try to recreate the condition come Sunday and will post my findings
BTW, they absolutely love the car!

There are actually a few undocumented features on the Astra... There is a post somewhere on the forumthat lists them, check it out!

"Undocumented", because it's more of a European thing. With the ignition off (and I believe the key out of the ignition), flipping the signal arm either left or right triggers the signal lights on that side of the car to come on and stay on. Useful when parked along the side of a dark road at night. I can see how just a single "solid-on" light would be less distracting than using your hazard lights under the same circumstances, since the latter was originally designed to signal an emergency.

Flipping the high beams after you've shut off the car (and removed the key) turns on all the exterior lights for about 30 seconds. Useful when parking outdoors at night and need a little extra illumination when walking up the driveway towards the house.

If there's a problem turning the key in the ignition, just turn the steering wheel slightly to the left or slightly to the right while turning the key. That should do the trick.

Thanks for pointing that out. I imagine that the full on, turn signal light would shut itself off after a few seconds?

No, the side indicator, when activated for safe parking, is on until it is manually turned off... either by hitting the stalk again, or by turning the car on. From what I gathered though, it can be left on overnight with no issues concerning battery life, which is what I think you were getting at!

Yeah, I remember a buddy's VW Rabbit had the same feature, either very common or a requirement of Euro cars. I used it once when I was parked on a dark street while moving cars around the driveway. I gave up after I was politely told twice by passersby that I had left my headlights on.
